World Germany Neo-Nazis Beate Zschäpe crime murder National Socialist Underground A German court has sentenced the last surviving member of a neo-Nazi gang to life imprisonment for murdering 10 people on racially-motivated grounds. The Munich state court convicted Beate Zschäpe and four other defendants in one of post-war Germany’s longest trials, over the murder of eight ethnic Turks, a Greek citizen and a policewoman between 2000 and 2007. Zschäpe was the central defendant in what some German outlets have called “the trial of the century,” as it uncovered apparent lapses in the government’s monitoring of neo-Nazis, which Zschäpe and her accomplices exploited for years. Zschäpe is the only surviving member of a criminal cell called the National Socialist Underground (NSU), which she formed together with housemates Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt. Suspect in Slaying of California Policewoman Identified
A man who shot and killed a rookie police officer in Northern California before taking his own life during a standoff with police was a 48-year-old convict who had been ordered to surrender a semi-automatic rifle. Kevin Douglas Limbaugh's name was released Saturday as authorities continued to investigate his motive for the attack. Lawyer wins genius grant, plans to promote message about immigration benefits
A lawyer who is one of 24 winners of this year’s “genius grants” by the MacArthur Foundation plans to use the money to get out her message about the benefits of immigration.Anchorage lawyer Margaret Stock, 51, will get $625,000 over five years, report the Anchorage Daily News and the Associated Press. A former military policewoman who came to Alaska as a result of her service, Stock is the only lawyer in the Anchorage office of Cascadia Cross-Border Law, and she is Alaska’s co-chair for the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation.Stock focuses on the impact of immigration laws on military personnel and their families.
