THE first pictures have emerged of two hero cops and a local musician killed by a gunman who slaughtered four in a mass shooting in Canada yesterday. Sara Mae Burns, 43, and Lawrence Robb Costello, 45, lost their lives in the line of duty when officers rushed to a suburban apartment complex in Fredericton at 7am. Bobbie Lee Wright, 32, and her new boyfriend, local musician Donnie Robichaud, 42, were also shot dead by the gunman. Matthew Vincent Raymond, 48, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder. The suspect was taken into custody at 11am with “serious injuries”, and the motive for the shooting spree is still unclear. Terrified residents yesterday described waking up to the sound of gunshots as the sleepy town of around 56,000 people was put on lockdown. Cops urged people to stay inside their homes as they hunted the shooter for almost four hours. Witness Justin McLean, who lives in the complex, said: "I just woke up and heard gunshots and I looked outside … [Read more...] about Canada shooting – first pics of hero cops and musician killed by Fredericton gunman as man is charged

The Latest: Protesters speak out against Dallas shooting
DALLAS — The Latest on a fatal shooting involving an off-duty Dallas police officer (all times local): 11:35 p.m. Protesters gathered at police headquarters in Dallas to speak out against the shooting death of a black man by a white officer who says she mistook his apartment for hers. The Dallas Morning News reports that community activists organized the rally Monday to protest last week's shooting of 26-year-old Botham Jean. Officer Amber Guyger was arrested Sunday on a manslaughter charge and released on bond. An arrest affidavit that gives a narrative of what happened was released Monday. It appeared to be based almost entirely on the officer's account. Attorneys for Jean's family say it's "self-serving" and contradicts neighbors' accounts. Several dozen protesters blocked traffic as they marched about half a mile from police headquarters. They were also denouncing the fatal shooting of a man by a security guard on Sept. 1. Police, some on horseback, followed. Officers fired … [Read more...] about The Latest: Protesters speak out against Dallas shooting
Attorneys Question Officer’s Account of Neighbor’s Shooting
Attorneys for the family of a black man who was shot and killed by a white Dallas police officer who says she mistook his apartment for hers are criticizing an affidavit that gives a narrative of what happened. The lawyers said the arrest affidavit released Monday contradicts neighbors' accounts. Amid their concerns, though, the district attorney said the case against Amber Guyger will get a hard look by her office and be presented to a grand jury, which could decide on more serious charges than manslaughter in last week's shooting of 26-year-old Botham Jean. Video Affidavit: Officer Shot Into Darkened Apt., Killing Resident Benjamin Crump, one of the attorneys for Jean's family, said the affidavit "is very self-serving." And Lee Merritt, who is also representing the family, called it an attempt to "condone what happened, give her a break." The document, prepared by a Texas Ranger, appeared to be based almost entirely on Guyger's account. Affidavit: Officer Shot Into Darkened … [Read more...] about Attorneys Question Officer’s Account of Neighbor’s Shooting
