The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officer was responding to the report of an active shooter inside the Biomat USA Plasma Center at the corner of Kalamazoo Avenue and Edwards Street, a witness told Kalamazoo radio station WKZO. The officer was taken to a local hospital and was wearing a protective vest during the shooting, WOOD-TV reports. It is unclear at this time what caused the shooting and if anyone else was shot or injured. Several business downtown are under lockdown, including Shakespeare's Pub. A U.S. Border Patrol supervisor charged in the killings of four women knew the victims and targeted them for their vulnerability, authorities said Monday, as some feared more deaths at the hands of the agent remained undiscovered. Though investigators didn't detail Juan David Ortiz's history with the women, who were believed to have been sex workers, they said he knew them before killing them and leaving their bodies by rural Texas roadsides during a 10-day string of violence. "He had the trust of most of the victims that were involved in this killing," said Chief Deputy Federico Garza of the Webb County Sheriff's Office. "So he took that opportunity to commit this crime." FIVE people, including three kids, were killed in a mass shooting in the US state of Delaware last night, according to reports. Cops are investigating after finding the bodies of all five victims inside the same home. The confirmed a 42-year-old man, 41-year-old woman and three kids under eight died of gunshot wounds, according to ABC6. One neighbour said: "We're kind of in shock. I'm concerned because there is no activity besides paramedics and police." But Delaware State Police are reported to have said they do not think there is a wider risk to the public. Officials have not released the names of the victims and an autopsy will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.
