BRITS may have to batten down the hatches as Hurricane Helene is heading to the UK next week — but it is at least set to get warm. The storm is currently sitting in the mid-Atlantic on the heels of the catastrophic Hurricane Florence that is about to batter the southeastern United States. But Helene is set to swing its course towards Britain from today — pivoting north east and making a beeline for Blighty. A dramatic forecast image from the US National Hurricane Centre shows how Helene will sweep in to the south west of the British Isles from Monday night. The Hurricane is located about 1,285 miles southwest of the Azores in the Atlantic with maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour. HURRICANE Helene is limbering up as it joins Hurricane Florence in the Atlantic Basin. Yet another powerful storm has formed and is heading our way, here is what is known about it. Where is the Hurricane Helene? Hurricane Helene continued to weaken in the mid Atlantic and was expected to become a tropical storm, the US National Hurricane Center said. Helene was located about 1,225 miles south-southwest of the Azores with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph the Miami based weather forecaster said. Interests in the Azores should monitor the progress of Helene, the NHC added. When will it hit Britain? Helene is set to bring maximum winds of up to 73mph when it smashes into the south west coast of the British Isles next week. She is currently one of a glut of tropical storms in the Atlantic, with Florence sparking mass evacuations as she heads towards landfall in the US states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. But the Met Office says Helene could be heading east towards the south-western corners of the UK, with the tip of Ireland among the worst affected.
