Netflix is bringing its new ad-tier plan to the market very soon, but as the day passes, we are getting new details about this upcoming plan that may not appeal to many users. The latest update suggests Netflix will not allow users to download content and watch them offline with the ad-tier plan. Downloads are a big part of the streaming platforms, and most of them charging for their service allows offline viewing. But it seems Netflix has other ideas, and not only does it plan to charge consumers for its ad-tier plan (albeit lower than its current rates) but also restrict some features for its users. All these details were discovered in the Netflix iPhone code by a developer named Steve Moser. He also found traces of Netflix not allowing you to skip ads or let you use the service while the ad is running. The video streaming platform faces heavy competition from the likes of Hulu, Disney+ Hotstar, and Amazon Prime Video among others. However, Netflix has been facing lower … [Read more...] about Netflix Will Not Allow This Feature For Users With Its Ad-Tier Plan: All Details

Ryan Reynolds surprises fan with 100 signed copies of movies
Ryan Reynolds has surprised a DVD shop owner and lifelong fan with more than 100 signed copies of the Hollywood star's own movies. Movie buff Rob Clarke, 45, who runs Mad4Movies, in Wrexham, Wales, couldn't believe it when he got a message from the Deadpool actor on Twitter . Clarke met Wrexham co-owner Reynolds last year while he was in town filming the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, set to air on Disney+ this month. Clarke said he and his wife Blake Lively had been clearing out their office when they found the haul of old movies, and thought Rob might like them for his shop. Clarke thought the message was a hoax at first until his wife Carrie, 38, told him it was real. The haul of 103 movies are all movies Reynolds and Lively have starred in, including Deadpool 2 , The Age Of Adaline , The Rhythm Section and The Voices . Clarke said he has no idea what the films are worth but plans to sell them for charity—and has earmarked some that he will keep for himself. … [Read more...] about Ryan Reynolds surprises fan with 100 signed copies of movies
Lake Mead water use reductions essential to stop “catastrophic collapse”
Lake Mead is at risk of "catastrophic collapse" if nothing is done to reduce water use at the manmade reservoir that straddles the Arizona/Nevada border, U.S. government officials have warned. Water levels are forecast to drop further before the end of August and measures have been unveiled to minimize damage to the ecosystem and the strain on local communities. According to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Lake Mead's water is 1,042.38 feet above sea level, as of August 16. The USBR predicts the water level will drop to 1,042.35 feet before September. Longer-term USBR forecasts suggest the water level will decline to 1,019 feet by August 2023 and 1,013 feet in July 2024. The USBR is asking people to use as little water as possible and has announced that the reservoir—the largest in the U.S.—will operate under its first Level 2a Shortage Condition in 2023. This means downstream releases from the Hoover Dam will be reduced in 2023 to Arizona, Nevada and Mexico. Russia sends jets with hypersonic missiles to NATO borders for 24/7 duty
Russia has reportedly sent three planes with hypersonic missiles to an exclave between two NATO members for around-the-clock combat duty amid fears of war between the alliance and President Vladimir Putin 's army. Russia's Defense Ministry said Thursday that the MiG-31 aircraft are now based at the Chkalovsk airfield in the Kaliningrad region "as part of the implementation of additional strategic deterrence measures," Russian state-owned news agency Ria Novosti reported. That means the planes, equipped with their Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, are now close to NATO borders. Kaliningrad , which does not share any borders with Russia but is still part of its territory, is sandwiched between NATO countries Poland and Lithuania. Putin hasn't publicly voiced plans to attack NATO, but he has warned that any countries that "create a strategic threat to Russia" during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war can expect "retaliatory strikes." Russian state television and the Russian … [Read more...] about Russia sends jets with hypersonic missiles to NATO borders for 24/7 duty
Japan launches campaign for young people to drink more to boost economy
Japan's national tax agency has reportedly launched a national competition in hopes to make alcoholic drinks more attractive to the younger generation, boosting the economy in turn. The "Sake Viva" campaign asks 20-39 year-olds to share their business ideas to increase demand for alcoholic drinks including Japanese sake, shochu, whiskey, beer or wine. This contest was devised after a realization that Generation Z (people born between 1997 and the early 2010s) is drinking less alcohol which has hit taxes for adult beverages. Recent trends have indicated that Generation Z drinks less than millennials, a trend that has resulted in lower alcohol sales and therefore less income for the government through taxes. Contestants are asked to come up with promotions, branding and even cutting-edge plans involving artificial intelligence. The group running the competition for the tax authority says new habits have formed during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has contributed to the … [Read more...] about Japan launches campaign for young people to drink more to boost economy
Cloud hangs over U.S. chipmakers on worries data centre growth could slow
Cloud and data centres, the chip industry's strongest sector, may be its next problem: Signs are showing that growth could slow in what has been a pillar during the COVID era as consumers signed up for cloud-based entertainment and companies retooled their offices. (Sign up to our Technology newsletter, Today’s Cache, for insights on emerging themes at the intersection of technology, business and policy. Click here to subscribe for free.) Analysts say the cloud market has rarely had to weather a prolonged economic downturn since it rose to prominence in the last decade as more businesses adopted the technology, making it harder to predict if it's recession proof or it will be hit in an economic downtown. As 40-year-high inflation weighs on consumers and economists debate recession signals, advertisers have been tightening their purse strings, say Big Tech companies. “Investors are worried it's the next shoe to drop," said Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon, adding that an … [Read more...] about Cloud hangs over U.S. chipmakers on worries data centre growth could slow

The fourth phase of the Common Universities Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 began on Wednesday. On the second day of phase four of the exam, August 18, students found the papers to be easy except for mathematics, which has been considered as little moderate in difficulty level. In economics, “there was one case study with five questions and surprisingly the graph based questions were more like data interpretation. Topics covered included macro-economic policy indicator, goal of five-year plan, great leap forward campaign, among others,” said Amitendra Kumar, Product Head – CUET & Under Graduate Programmes, Career Launcher.
