R. Ashwin (40 n.o., 23b, 2x3, 3x6) donned the role of finisher to give Rajasthan Royals a five-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings at Brabourne Stadium here on Friday. The win helped Royals (18 points) seal the second spot and set up a clash against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 in Kolkata on May 24. Lucknow Super Giants is the other team to qualify. Pursuing a target of 151, Royals were cruising at 104 for three. Leg-spinner Prashant Solanki took out Yashasvi Jaiswal (59, 44b, 8x4, 1x6) and Shrimron Hetmyer (6, 7b, 1x4) in quick succession to set the alarm bells ringing in the dressing room. The experienced Ashwin, undaunted by the climbing required run-rate, managed to hit the big shots to ease the pressure. Ashwin and Riyan Parag (10 n.o., 10b, 1x4) carried Royals home with two balls to spare. IPL 2022, RCB vs LSG | Dropping easy catches never helps as Patidar made the difference: LSG skipper Rahul
A dejected Lucknow Super Giants skipper K.L. Rahul blamed sloppy fielding for his team’s 14-run defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL Eliminator while acknowledging Rajat Patidar’s brilliant hundred being the difference between the two teams. The 28-year-old Indore man Patidar scored a 54-ball 112 not out to singlehandedly win the IPL Eliminator for RCB. “I think it’s quite obvious — the reasons why we didn’t win. We let ourselves down in the field. Dropping easy catches never helps. Difference was obviously Patidar playing such a knock. When someone in the top three scores a hundred, more often the team wins,” Rahul said after the match. Patidar was dropped thrice on the day en route his hundred and Rahul was livid with his team’s fielding. “They fielded really well and we were poor,” he summed it up. He however was happy that as a new franchise they finished in top four in their first season. “We’ll take back a lot of positives. It’s a new … [Read more...] about IPL 2022, RCB vs LSG | Dropping easy catches never helps as Patidar made the difference: LSG skipper Rahul
IPL 2022 | Rajasthan Royals script easy win over Lucknow Super Giants
The Brabourne Stadium has witnessed quite a few high-scoring fixtures in this edition of the Indian Premier League, and things were no different on Sunday as Rajasthan Royals put up 178 for six against Lucknow Super Giants in a must-win game. That total proved sufficient for Royals as Super Giants, despite an aggressive 59 (39b, 5x4, 2x6) by Deepak Hooda, could manage only 154 for eight, handing the Rajasthan side a 24-run win. Opting to bat first, Royals found themselves in a spot of bother as Avesh Khan cleaned up opener Jos Buttler for just two runs. But Yashasvi Jaiswal (41, 29b, 6x4, 1x6) and Sanju Samson (32, 24b, 6x4) added 64 runs for the second wicket. Jaiswal tore apart Dushmantha Chameera, hitting three boundaries and a six in the sixth over. Captain Sanju, too, hit a few fours before offering a catch to Hooda at the deep off Jason Holder. After Sanju’s dismissal, Devdutt Padikkal (39, 18b, 5x4, 2x6) and Jaiswal motored along. The team reached the 100-run mark in … [Read more...] about IPL 2022 | Rajasthan Royals script easy win over Lucknow Super Giants

Ravens roundtable: Breaking down the toughest tests, best games and more in the 2022 schedule
The Ravens haven’t played a game since early January, haven’t won a game since late November and haven’t beaten a 2021 playoff team since mid-September. But with the release of the NFL’s 2022 schedule Thursday — and the expected return of a litany of injured starters — hope springs eternal in Baltimore. The Ravens, looking to return to the postseason after an 8-9 season, will open their slate with a four-game stretch against AFC East opponents and finish it with an AFC North-heavy itinerary. In between, they’ll face Super Bowl contenders and perennial also-rans. They’ll play games on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and maybe even Saturday. They’ll take on a division where Ben Roethlisberger and Baker Mayfield are no longer Lamar Jackson’s toughest competition at quarterback. Four months from the Ravens’ season opener, 2022 predictions are almost entirely speculative. But someone’s got to make them. Here’s how Baltimore Sun reporters Childs Walker and Jonas Shaffer and editor C.J. Doon … [Read more...] about Ravens roundtable: Breaking down the toughest tests, best games and more in the 2022 schedule
IPL 2022 | Gujarat Titans beat CSK by seven wickets
Wriddhiman Saha’s solid 67 not out after a top-class bowling performance set up Gujarat Titans’ seven-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in the IPL here on Sunday, securing a top-two finish in the team standings. Gujarat bowlers put up a clinical show to restrict CSK to a below-par 133/5 despite a fine half-century by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Saha, who struck eight boundaries and a six in his 57-ball knock, anchored the chase nicely to get Gujarat home in 19.1 overs. While CSK were already out of the play-off race, the win for Gujarat guarantees them a top-two finish on the points table in their debut season, providing them with two opportunities to reach the final. Saha first added 59 runs in just 7.1 overs with Shubman Gill (18; 3x4) to lay the foundation of the win. CSK tried to make a mini comeback by grabbing two quick wickets in the middle overs but it was too little and too late. Saha, who was dropped by Ruturaj on 21, went hammer and tongs as he pummelled a listless CSK … [Read more...] about IPL 2022 | Gujarat Titans beat CSK by seven wickets
IPL 2022 | RCB seal last playoff berth after MI beat DC by five wickets
Royal Challengers Bangalore sneeked into the play-offs after Mumbai Indians broke Delhi Capitals' heart with a five-wicket win in their last IPL match on Saturday. Already out of contention, MI played partypoopers as they first restricted DC to 159 for 7 with Jasprit Bumrah snapping three wickets and then returned to overhaul the target in 19.1 overs to knock the 2020 finalists out of the tournament. While Ishan Kishan (48) and Dewald Brevis (37) kept MI in the hunt, it was Tim David's 11-ball 34-run cameo that brought the five-time champions back into the chase. Tilak Varma also chipped in with a crucial 17-ball 21. With MI at 95 for 3 in 14.3 overs, DC skipper Rishabh Pant made a strategic blunder as he refused to go for DRS after David nicked the first ball of his innings but the onfield umpire didn't give him out. It came back to haunt DC as David slammed fours and sixes at will to bring down the equation to 15 off 14 balls. Ramandeep then provided the finishing touch … [Read more...] about IPL 2022 | RCB seal last playoff berth after MI beat DC by five wickets
You have to swallow your ego sometimes: Jos Buttler on jittery start against Gujarat Titans
Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler had no qualms in admitting that he struggled to get going initially against Gujarat Titans in the first qualifier , saying sometimes you have to "swallow your ego" and hang in there without panicking. This season's Orange Cap holder Buttler, who now has 718 runs in 15 games, initially failed to time the ball and was 39 off his first 38 balls. But the opener shifted gears in style and smacked another 50 off his next 18 deliveries faced to lift RR's total to a challenging 188/6. "I was determined to hang in there. It was a big game for us and we wanted to make sure to put a big score," Buttler said at the post-match press conference after RR's seven-wicket loss to GT on Tuesday.
