Residents on a new housing estate will be banned from keeping cats to keep a local population of rare birds safe from attacks. Esquire Developments, which is building the homes, agreed to a " no cat policy " in an effort to settle opposition to the houses from the RSPB and Natural England, which warned that domestic cats kept by the estate's new residents could threaten the Nightingales. The proposed development of 68 homes off Cliffe Woods in Rochester, Kent, is close to a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Chattenden Woods and Lodge Hill; the most important in the country for nightingales, the RSPB said in a letter to planners last year. The birds nest close to the ground, making them vulnerable to predators. Blaze went blind in 2020, but thankfully his cat sister Satin has learned to "talk" to him and guides him to get around and helped adjust to his blindness. Robin Wagner, 28, adopted German shepherd-mix Blaze in 2019, and the first checkup revealed he had vision problems. Vets diagnosed Blaze as blind in one eye and with lens issues in the other that would deteriorate. Guide cat Satin took it all in stride and, after getting used to being stood on by her leggy new roommate, the pair became inseparable. The video shared by user astro_879, which had 1.4 million likes at the time of writing , was overlaid with a message that read: " Golden retriever reaction to beating cancer [teary eyes emoji]." According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), nearly half of all dogs over the age of 10 will develop cancer. Addressing the golden retriever, a voice in the TikTok clip said: "You had a six-pound tumor removed from your spleen and as a golden retriever, there's only a 10 percent chance that that's not cancerous. "They say you have Hemangiosarcoma, which kills all kinds of dogs.
