The very fact we are celebrating World Menstrual Hygiene Day shows how far we have come, as up until recently, periods were confined to women’s toilet cubicles and were a complete taboo in the public sphere. Nowadays, we are able to address feminine hygiene without as much of a stigma, which means starting to delve into more environmentally friendly approaches to our periods. Reporting from Sacramento — California state auditors found “significant deficiencies” in the operations of the Department of Motor Vehicles in a report released Wednesday, concluding that long lines of customers at dozens of field offices last year were caused largely by technology and staffing problems.The audit’s release came just days after Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration publicly solicited applications for a new DMV director and as critics in the Legislature continued to demand a sweeping overhaul of the troubled state department.Auditors found problems with management practices, staffing levels and technology. BRITAIN has been issued flood warnings with Storm Deirdre forecast to batter the country TODAY. The Environment Agency issued three upgraded warnings for north west England and south west Scotland. The entire Scottish coastline from Ayr to Troon in Ayrshire is said to be vulnerable from flooding around 12.45pm today. This is due to the combination of high tide and waves whipped up by the severe gales. Other warnings have been placed around Outer Wigtown Bay for 11.15am and East Luce Bay at 11.45am. This covers the area where the bodies of James and Susan Kenneavy were found washed up last week. HEAVY rain will batter Britain tonight before Storm Deirdre rages across the country, bringing life-threatening gale force winds and snowstorms. Winds will reach up to 80mph across some parts of the UK this weekend, sparking power cuts and road and rail chaos. A Nordic blast will sweep in from Scandinavia after the "danger-to-life" vortex batters northern parts of Britain tomorrow. The weather system has forced the Met Office to issue a yellow warning for wind from 5am until midnight on Friday. According to the warning, a "deep depression" will move eastwards across northern Scotland tomorrow bringing "widespread gales". The warning read: "Inland gusts of 50-60 mph are likely quite widely, with gusts of 70-80 mph in exposed locations across northwest Scotland.
