A mum-of-three has admitted to hiding in her car for 90 minutes each week in order to escape her children and enjoy some much-needed time to herself. Claire Haiek, from Sydney, Australia, started making time for herself earlier this year when her seven-year-old daughter Olivia began taking tap dancing lessons, as she would stay in the car for the 30 minutes that the class took. But shortly afterwards, Olivia said she wanted to go to ballet classes too, which run for 45 minutes directly after the tap class, with a 15-minute break in between. This meant that Olivia would be busy for a full 90 minutes, and rather than drive back home to wait for her classes to be finished, Claire decided she would spend that hour and a half by herself in the peace and quiet of her car. Advert showing 1950s house prices stuns internet: ‘Had it easy back then’
The rising cost of buying a house in America has been further emphasized by an unearthed advert from the 1950s showing the comparatively low prices of property in that period. In a week where data showed housing affordability in the U.S. at a 15-year low , with mortgage payments higher than rent in 45 of America's 50 largest metropolitan regions, a tweet by glory_manz has further highlighted the difficulties facing homebuyers today. Captioned: "They really had it easy back then", the newspaper advert featured in the tweet centers around a development at Westwood Lake, Southwest Miami, Florida , where, according to the copy, "more than 600 homes" were "built and sold" in the space of seven months. The advert, created by real estate and land investment firm The Mackle Company, goes on to list two-bedroom properties at $7,450 or for monthly payments of $47.92. Three-bedroom properties, meanwhile, are priced at $7,900 or $49.74. At the time of writing, the post had been … [Read more...] about Advert showing 1950s house prices stuns internet: ‘Had it easy back then’
Easy Does It: Five Keys To Curating An Effortless, Loyalty-Building Customer Experience
This tale of two couches — and two decidedly different customer experiences — began last winter when I ordered a three-piece sectional from a big-name home furnishings retailer and was told to expect delivery to my doorstep in about three weeks. Not bad, I thought, in this era of labor shortages and supply chain disruptions. Next came a call from the company's warehouse dispatch, providing a specific day and two-hour window for delivery. When a text message arrived on delivery day, inviting me to track the couch's movements in real time, I clicked on the link. And that's when my customer journey suddenly got bumpy. "Delivery canceled" read the message, with a phone number to call for more details. When I called, no one could tell me where the couch was or when delivery could be rescheduled. After several weeks passed without any word from the company, I cancelled the order and started anew. This time, though, having decided to go with a lesser-known online-only brand, things played … [Read more...] about Easy Does It: Five Keys To Curating An Effortless, Loyalty-Building Customer Experience
California won’t make it easy to obtain concealed carry licenses, despite Supreme Court ruling
The Supreme Court likely tore a giant hole in California’s concealed-carry gun law, but that doesn’t mean the Golden State must suddenly make it easy to obtain licenses to carry firearms in public. On Thursday, the court struck down a New York law requiring gun owners to show they have “proper cause” to get a permit to carry a handgun outside of their home. The ruling likely jeopardizes similarly restrictive laws in California, a half-dozen other states and the District of Columbia, which all require applicants to prove they have a special reason to need self-protection. Gun laws: Supreme Court strikes down New York gun law — rendering California’s law dead too That ruling elicited cheers from gun-rights activists and alarm among Democratic officials and gun-violence advocates, who pointed to a flurry of mass shootings across the country in recent months. But state Attorney General Rob Bonta warned residents that the bulk of California’s concealed-carry law remains in … [Read more...] about California won’t make it easy to obtain concealed carry licenses, despite Supreme Court ruling

Suffering From Poor Metabolism? Here are 5 Easy Ways to Boost Metabolic Rate
What is metabolism? It is a technical term used to describe the chemical reactions in the body. The higher the metabolic rate, the more calories an individual burns, and the easier it is to shed kilos. High metabolism also boosts the energy levels of the body. Increasing the metabolism is not a tedious task, one can make small lifestyle changes and incorporate tips into the routine. Eat Protein Eating food increases the metabolic rate for a few hours and it is called the thermic effect of food (TEF). Under this situation, the body needs extra calories to digest, absorb and process the nutrients in your meal. Protein causes the largest rise in TEF, increasing the metabolic rate by 15–30%. On the other hand, carbs increase the metabolic rate by 5–10%, while fats do it by 0–3%. Eating protein makes you feel more full and prevents overeating.
