Ninety-nine trainees were inducted into the Kerala Police as driver police constables at a ceremony held at the Special Armed Police (SAP) ground here on Saturday. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan received salute and inspected the parade at the passing out ceremony. The trainees completed the six-month basic training from the battalions of the SAP and the Malabar Special Police (MSP). Besides the training programme, they also received exposure in handling new-generation vehicles, VVIP security duty and escort duty. It’s a mixed result for the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE). As the TS inter first-year result has touched an five year high, the TS intr second-year results have shown figures worse than 2021, and 2020. A total of 4,64,892 students had appeared for the TS Inter first-year exam. Of these 4,14,380 students had registered under general studies while 59,512 under vocational. Overall, 63.32 per cent have passed the exam. Stream-wise, the pass percentage is higher among general students as 64.85 per cent of students have cracked exams while among vocational studies, 50.70 per cent of students passed. This is one of the best results for the TS Inter first-year students. Not only has the pass percentage reached an all-time high but also the number of students getting A grade has shot up. Of the 5,03,570 students who registered to appear for the Telangana 10th exams, as many as 4,53,201 students have passed. The pass percentage is the lowest in three years, with as many as 90% of students passing the TS SSC. Not only is there a drop of a huge 10 percentage points when compared with last year when all 100% of students were promoted but also the pass percentage has dipped from 2019 – when the TSBSE had held board exams last. Since for the past two years, the Telangana Board is not conducting exams, the result seems to have mirrored the reality of learning among students after two years of school shut down and online classes. PUTRAJAYA: There are no plans to review History as a mandatory pass subject in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, says Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin. Instead, the Education Ministry will look at the contributing factors that led to students failing History and find appropriate interventions to make sure that students are able to master the subject, he said. "In the future, the ministry will make sure the number of students who fail the subject is reduced over time,” he said at a press conference after announcing the 15th national laureate here. It was reported that a total of 45,514 or 11.91% of the 2021 SPM candidates were not eligible for a certificate because they did not pass either the Bahasa Malaysia or History paper.
