Firefighters could be seen pulling people from the burning building in the 9th district of the French capital after the blast at around 9am local time on January 12, 2019. Were any victims injured and what's the current death toll? France's interior minister announced at 1pm local time that four people had died in the explosion. Two of those who lost their lives were firefighters who had raced to the scene to rescue those impacted by the blaze. MULTIPLE people are reported to have been injured after a massive explosion in Paris blew out windows and overturned cars. Firefighters pulled people from the burning building on Rue de Treviso in the 9th district of the French capital after the blast at about 9am local time. The cause of the explosion is not yet known, however there are reports that it was due to a gas leak in a bakery. It's thought there may be a number of causalities, but police haven't made any confirmation yet. Witnesses described on French television the overwhelmingly sound of the blast and people trapped inside nearby buildings. Pictures from the scene showed the windows blown out of a building with rubble strewn across the street. A Paris police spokeswoman said several injuries have been reported to police but no deaths. World Paris An armed man took three hostages in Paris on Tuesday afternoon, demanding to be put in contact with the Iranian Embassy. The hostages have now been freed and the suspect arrested, the French interior minister announced. The man is “determined and violent” and claims to have a handgun and a bomb according to police, The Guardian reported. Police also said the man is believed to have an accomplice outside the building where he’s holding the hostage in a northern district of the French capital. At this time, police do not currently believe the situation is terror-related. Paris -- A fire in a western Paris apartment building early Tuesday killed at least seven people and sent residents fleeing to the roof or climbing out their windows to escape, authorities said. The cause of the blaze that also injured at least 28 people was unclear. Firefighters were still searching the eight-story structure for other victims and working to extinguish the blaze, according to spokesman Clement Cognon of the city fire service."The situation was already dramatic when the firefighters arrived," Cognon said. Update — 5:51 p.m. EST: The taxi driver who reportedly drove the three suspects in this morning’s bombing in Brussels found the men to be suspicious after he attempted to assist them with their bags as they arrived at the airport. The driver found the incredible weight of the mens’ luggage particularly suspicious and, once he learned of the bombing, informed police and brought authorities to the home where he picked up the three men.
