With less than two months until the election, President Donald Trump has continued to express his views on abortion and the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, during his time in office, as well as before entering the White House. Trump is set to face off against Democratic challenger Joe Biden in the first presidential debate on Tuesday and following Trump's recent nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, abortion and Roe v. Wade are two issues likely to be brought up. Here's what Trump has said about both issues over the years. 1999 Interview on NBC News' Meet the Press "Well, look, I'm very pro-choice," Trump said when asked if he would ban partial-birth abortions as president. "I hate the concept of abortion. I hate it. I hate everything it stands for. I cringe when I listen to people debating the subject. But you still – I just believe in choice. And, again, it may be a little bit of a New York background, because there is some different attitude … [Read more...] about Donald Trump’s views on abortion and Roe v. Wade in his own words

Donald Trump backs surefire primary candidates in bid to boost success rate
Donald Trump has given an 11th-hour endorsement to a host of sitting members of Congress on the eve of the next round of Republican primaries. The former president backed candidates hoping to win their respective elections in Utah, Oklahoma and Illinois on Tuesday. While the apparent influence of a Trump endorsement has been the focal point in some GOP primaries, such as J.D. Vance's victory in the GOP Senate primary in Ohio or Mehmet Oz's eventual win in the Pennsylvania Senate primary, the latest batch of endorsements from the current president pose almost next to no risk. As with a large majority of Trump's endorsed candidates in primaries across the country, the former president has backed incumbents, who very rarely lose midterm elections, never mind party primaries. The lateness of the announcements may suggest Trump is attempting to boost the figures on his apparent knack for picking eventual winners in GOP primaries following a recent bout of losses in Georgia . … [Read more...] about Donald Trump backs surefire primary candidates in bid to boost success rate
Does Ivanka Trump back or oppose abortion rights?
Marchers in New York marked International Women's Day on Wednesday afternoon by chanting "Hey, hey, ho, ho, Donald Trump has got to go" while walking between two of the real estate mogul's signature properties. Some hoisted posters featuring coat hangers, a strong symbol for many women in the battle over abortion rights. Meanwhile, the most powerful millennial woman in the Trump inner circle tweeted her version of support. "Today, we celebrate women and are reminded of our collective voice and the powerful impact we have on our societies and economies," Ivanka Trump wrote. Related: Ivanka helped 'set the tone' for Trump's speech Her record on the most crucial of women's rights, though, is one of artful dodging. The landing page of Ivanka's eponymous website celebrated the day with the words "Be Bold for Change," written in pink, beige and red. The website gives no clue about what this "change" might be, but throughout his presidential campaign, Donald Trump made it pretty … [Read more...] about Does Ivanka Trump back or oppose abortion rights?
Conway: Trump Lashes Out Because He Fears Being Shown as Deranged
Lawyer George Conway, the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, claimed in a Wednesday opinion-editorial that President Donald Trump trashed him and his Never Trump Lincoln Project group because he fears being exposed as “fake or deranged.” Conway wrote for the Washington Post : Trump’s narcissism deadens any ability he might otherwise have had to carry out the duties of a president in the manner the Constitution requires. He’s so self-obsessed, he can only act for himself, not for the nation. It’s why he was impeached, and why he should have been removed from office. […] Trump’s lying, his self-regard, his self-soothing, his lack of empathy, his narcissistic rage, his contempt for norms, rules, laws, facts and simple truths — have all come home to roost. Now he sees his poll numbers fall accordingly, and lashes out with ever-increasing anger. For deep in his psyche he knows the truth. Because he fears being revealed as a fake or deranged, he’ll call … [Read more...] about Conway: Trump Lashes Out Because He Fears Being Shown as Deranged
Trump launches fresh attack on his own acting ambassador to Ukraine: “He’s a never-Trumper and his lawyer is a never-Trumper”
President Donald Trump's only rebuttal so far of a career diplomat who gave damning testimony at impeachment proceedings was to label him as a "never-Trumper"—without addressing any of the statements that the diplomat made. Trump's comments came after he was asked to respond to statements made by Bill Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine, in which he provided evidence for ongoing the alleged quid-pro-quo attempt to make military aid to Ukraine contingent on the country probing 2020 Democratic front-runner Joe Biden. In Taylor's opening statement to impeachment proceedings on Tuesday, he said that Trump wanted the Ukrainian president to "go to a microphone and say he is opening investigations of Biden and 2016 election interference." Taylor said that U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland told him that "'everything' was dependent on such an announcement, including security assistance." Speaking to reporters outside the White House before flying to a Criminal … [Read more...] about Trump launches fresh attack on his own acting ambassador to Ukraine: “He’s a never-Trumper and his lawyer is a never-Trumper”
Nancy Pelosi warns Trump against harassing whistleblower: “You’re in my wheelhouse”
Speaker Nancy Pelosi ridiculed President Donald Trump for attacking the credibility of former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch or the whistleblower during testimony, cautioning him that such a move is a direct challenge to her leadership. Pelosi said Trump and anyone else in Washington understands that the president's words have massive repercussions and "he should not frivolously throw out insults, but that's what he does." Speaking Sunday morning on CBS' Face the Nation , Pelosi said Trump's actions in the White House are "much worse" than those of former President Richard Nixon. She defended the impeachment process and warned Trump against trying to intimidate or harass the currently anonymous Ukraine whistleblower. "I will make sure he does not intimidate the whistleblower," Pelosi said in an interview with Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan, which aired Sunday morning. "I told the president you're in my wheelhouse when you come after the whistleblower." … [Read more...] about Nancy Pelosi warns Trump against harassing whistleblower: “You’re in my wheelhouse”
Pelosi says Trump’s Twitter attacks on Yovanovitch are part of “his own insecurity as an imposter”
In an interview with CBS' Face the Nation from Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blasted President Donald Trump for his Twitter attacks of former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch during the congressional impeachment inquiry hearing, calling them a reflection of "his own insecurity as an imposter." Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan asked Pelosi about Trump's tweets attacking Yovanovitch while she was giving her testimony at the hearing. Trump began his tweet with: "Everywhere Marie Yovanovitch turned went bad." Pelosi noted that Trump's knowledge of his own error was the source of his decision to tweet about Yovanovitch. "He made a mistake, and he knows her strength, and he was trying to undermine it." She went on to denounce the president's decision to tweet about Yovanovitch. "People don't insult people, especially when they're giving testimony before the Congress of the United States." Brennan pointed out that the White House stated that Trump wasn't … [Read more...] about Pelosi says Trump’s Twitter attacks on Yovanovitch are part of “his own insecurity as an imposter”
William Barr accuses Democrats of “scorched-earth, no-holds-barred war” against Trump
Attorney General William Barr gave his most vociferous defense of President Donald Trump on Friday and accused his political opponents of trying to upend the Trump administration. In an hour-long speech at the Federalist Society—a largely Conservative and influential legal group—Barr hit out at Democrats for trying to dismiss voters who elected Trump by "using every tool and maneuver to sabotage" his administration. "In waging a scorched-earth, no-holds-barred war of resistance against this administration, it is the left that is engaged in a systematic shredding of norms and undermining the rule of law," Barr said. Barr's comments came a week after the Washington Post reported that he declined a request from Trump to hold a press conference to state that there was no illegality in a July phone call between the president and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The call is central to Democrats' impeachment probe into whether Trump was withholding military aid in order … [Read more...] about William Barr accuses Democrats of “scorched-earth, no-holds-barred war” against Trump
What Ivanka Trump has said about abortion rights
Former President Donald Trump took a victory lap over the weekend and celebrated the Supreme Court 's striking down Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling that provided constitutional protections for abortions. The three justices appointed to the high court in Trump's single term—Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett —were instrumental in the decision to "upend the scales of justice and eliminate a fundamental right for women in this country," President Joe Biden noted in a statement after the decision came down on Friday. Trump, on the other hand, hailed it as "a victory for the Constitution, a victory for the rule of law, and above all, a victory for life." He has long said his elder daughter Ivanka has inspired his views when it comes to women's issues. In an interview in August 2015, he said she was his "guide" on the "whole issue of women's health and women." And Ivanka Trump served as a senior White House advisor while styling herself as a … [Read more...] about What Ivanka Trump has said about abortion rights
George Conway Tears Up Calling Trump Racist: My Mom Was Told ‘Go Back to Your Country’
Former Lincoln Project adviser George Conway teared up as he recalled a racist incident against his mother, using the story to slam President Donald Trump as both “evil” and “racist.” “My mother came from the Philippines. She came to the United States in the late 1950s. So I’m half Filipino, and the other half is some mixture of Irish, Scottish – you know, I’m classic American mutt,” Conway begins in a clip of the upcoming documentary #Unfit: The Psychology of Donald Trump . “I think of myself as an American. I just assume people aren’t racist. And I tend to forget that, well, some people are. And that’s sort of the lesson with Trump is. I just gave him the benefit of the doubt.” “But what he said about those members of Congress,” the attorney said of the president’s remarks about “Squad” members Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), in which he urged them to return to the “crime infested places from which … [Read more...] about George Conway Tears Up Calling Trump Racist: My Mom Was Told ‘Go Back to Your Country’
