Florida GOP Representative Matt Gaetz , who is being investigated by the Justice Department in connection with the sex trafficking of a 17-year-old girl, has sparked outrage after it emerged he would host a high school event in his state. Gaetz is due to appear Tuesday night at the annual Academy Night at Niceville High School, where students typically learn about how they can attend U.S. service (or military) academies. In a post on his Facebook page , Gaetz said: "The Academy Night is an opportunity for high school students to speak directly with Congressman Gaetz and Service Academy representatives to learn more about the process for gaining admission to the U.S. Service Academies and receiving a Congressional nomination (required for entry). The post added, "All high school students, JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps) groups, parents, principals, and teachers are invited to attend this event to learn more about entry to the U.S. Service Academies." North Dakota schools aim to recruit Florida teachers over DeSantis bill
Amid mounting uncertainty over Florida's recently passed "Don't Say Gay" legislation , a school district far to the north is offering teachers an alternative. On Tuesday, a letter began circulating on social media which showed the Fargo Public Schools district in Fargo, North Dakota , offering Florida teachers a more welcoming alternative. Fargo is the largest city in North Dakota by population, and the district sending the letter is the third-largest in the state, with roughly 11,300 students. "You don't know us, so we'll start with this important statement," the letter, addressed to teachers in Florida, began. "We are way OK with saying gay, or straight, or LGBTQ+. Though we have a long way to go to become a fully inclusive community, we believe it is an injustice to diminish any individual's gender identity in any way. People should be welcomed to show up as their authentic selves!" The letter was authored by district Superintendent Dr. Rupak Gandhi, Director of Equity and … [Read more...] about North Dakota schools aim to recruit Florida teachers over DeSantis bill

Alex Jones must face defamation case in Connecticut despite bankruptcy filing, judge rules
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A federal bankruptcy judge on Monday cleared the way for a defamation lawsuit in Connecticut to proceed against Infowars host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. The case was filed by relatives of some victims of the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Jones has falsely claimed that the nation’s deadliest school shooting — which killed 20 students and six educators — was a hoax. Jones’ lawyer had sought to transfer the case to a federal bankruptcy court, rather than continue the case in Connecticut state court. That move brought the first day of jury selection to a sudden halt earlier this month. However, Monday’s ruling by Judge Julie Manning essentially allows the plaintiffs to continue the defamation lawsuit against just Jones as an individual, without Free Speech Systems, a company owned by Jones and a defendant in the Connecticut case. Alex Jones reacts to $49 million judgment in … [Read more...] about Alex Jones must face defamation case in Connecticut despite bankruptcy filing, judge rules
Tom Kean Jr. Slams Malinowski for ‘Being Out of Step with Voters’
New Jersey Republican Tom Kean Jr., who is going head to head with vulnerable Democrat Rep. Tom Malinowski in the November election, told Breitbart News that his opponent is “out of step” with the voters on multiple issues. “He doesn’t understand the importance of having parents involved in the kids’ education,” Kean Jr. said in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News. “I think parents should be at school boards and should have a role in their kids’ education and just goes to show Tom Malinowski is out of step with his constituents.” Kean Jr. went on to say he opposes critical race theory and had voted against it when he was in the New Jersey state Senate. Critical race theory is an academic framework claiming America is systemically racist and that different groups are either oppressed or oppressors based entirely on the color of their skin. “It’s very clear from his rhetoric and his actions that he doesn’t understand the importance of parents having a voice on their kids … [Read more...] about Tom Kean Jr. Slams Malinowski for ‘Being Out of Step with Voters’
Teen refusing to call mom’s step-kid their “sister” due to behavior praised
The internet has backed a teenager who refused to let his step-sister into his flat because she's too spoiled and her parents let her be. In a post shared on Reddit last Monday, the teenager, who goes by the username u/Playful-League5248, explained that their mom remarried when they were 12, and since then they have a step-sister who is 10 years younger and very spoiled . According to medicine net, there are some behaviors that parents adopt that cause children to grow up spoiled, and these include pampering, being overprotective, constantly bailing your child out, and failing to follow up on punishments. The website warns that empty threats of punishment can prevent kids from fully feeling remorse and taking responsibility for their actions. The poster wrote: "I never had anything against her back then but I won't pretend I started caring about her all that much either or that I saw her as my sister. My mom and her husband spoil her rotten and have allowed her to … [Read more...] about Teen refusing to call mom’s step-kid their “sister” due to behavior praised
Trump says the new NFL rules on concussions are “ruining” football. Doctors have just proved him wrong
President Donald Trump's position on the NFL's new concussion protocol is clear. As a candidate, he said the NFL had " become soft " and referred to concussions as " a little ding on the head ." And last Friday, at a campaign rally in Alabama with Luther Strange, he said the NFL's new rules around concussions—like the one that penalizes teams whose players deliver hits with their helmets—were "ruining the game." But while concerns about the link between concussions and long-term brain damage, such as chronic traumatic encephalitis, are growing, there was no national baseline statistic for the number of teenagers who have already been exposed to one or more concussion—until now. A group of researchers from the University of Michigan found that one in five teens had been diagnosed with at least one concussion before leaving high school. They published their results in JAMA . The proportion was even higher among teens who played high-contact sports like football. One in … [Read more...] about Trump says the new NFL rules on concussions are “ruining” football. “After my uncle died, we discovered the truth about his life”
I was writing my uncle Tom's obituary when a roundabout request appeared in my cell phone messages. "I have no agenda and do not want there to be any unpleasantness; I can keep quiet— but wanted you to know that Tom and I got married back in 2016. Hadn't ever been that big of a deal to us, but we were so upset over Trump's election, we wanted to do something in protest." "Well congrats four years late!" I texted back. There wasn't much more to say about a wedding announcement that arrives after one spouse passed away. I set to editing. I'd included my uncle's partner in the draft already, weighed how to describe him, a man who lived with my uncle and, in his old age, became his caretaker. I had inserted the catch-all of "partner" because that's what you do when there's an intimate relationship that everyone knows about but no one has discussed. It certainly wrong-footed me at that moment. Throughout most of his marriage to his wife, everyone knew my uncle was married to a woman … [Read more...] about “After my uncle died, we discovered the truth about his life”
Florida court says teen is not ‘mature’ enough to have an abortion
A pregnant and parentless 16-year-old in Florida may be forced to give birth after an appeals court ruled she was not “sufficiently mature to decide whether to terminate her pregnancy.” The teenager, who is identified in court papers as Jane Doe 22-B, was appealing a decision by Circuit Judge Jennifer Frydrychowicz on Aug. 10 that blocked her from having an abortion without the consent of a parent or guardian, as required by Florida law. At the time, the teenager was 10 weeks pregnant, the court papers state. But the three-judge panel of the state's 1st District Court of Appeal, which covers northern Florida, sided Monday, for the most part, with Frydrychowicz. The teenager "had not established by clear and convincing evidence that she was sufficiently mature to decide whether to terminate her pregnancy,” the ruling by Judges Harvey Jay, Rachel Nordby and Scott Makar, states. “Having reviewed the record, we affirm the trial court’s decision under the deferential … [Read more...] about Florida court says teen is not ‘mature’ enough to have an abortion
