Boris Johnson’s plan to cut 90,000 civil service jobs marks a return to austerity and will damage public services, a trade union leader has said. The Prime Minister recently tasked his Cabinet with shrinking the size of the service by a fifth, using the savings for tax cuts to ease the cost-of-living crisis. However, Frances O’Grady, head of the Trades Union Congress, argued the move would provoke widespread anger. Speaking to Sky News’ Sophy Ridge , she said: “This is back to austerity – and we saw how austerity failed not only ordinary people, families, but it failed the country in the end by holding back growth. “How on earth the Government expects to be able to shed 90,000 (jobs) at a stroke and for it not to damage communities in the country, I really don’t know. Sri Lanka PM Says Country Has Run Out of Petrol, Economy ‘Extremely Precarious’
Sri Lanka’s new Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in his first address to the nation on Monday said the country has run out of petrol, adding the economy is extremely precarious. “We have run out of petrol… At the moment, we only have petrol stocks for a single day,” the 73-year-old United National Party (UNP) leader said, explaining the island nation is unable to find dollars to finance essential imports. A diesel shipment using an Indian credit line arrived in the country on Sunday, but is yet to be distributed across the island. “Due to the diesel shipment that arrived yesterday, the lack of diesel will be resolved to some extent. Under the Indian credit line, two more diesel shipments are due to arrive on the 18th May and 1st June. In addition, two petrol shipments are expected on 18th and 29th May,” PM Wickremesinghe said. “For over 40 days 3 ships with crude oil and furnace oil have been anchored within the maritime zone of Sri Lanka. “Women of color lead and it’s a problem”: How Colorado’s last bill of 2022 died
The very last bill to be voted on in Colorado’s 2022 legislative session was designed to make sure the state never lets another child experience what Lorenzo Montoyawent through. Montoya was 14 years old in 2000 when he was taken into questioning by Denver police detectives who suspected him in the killing of a Skinner Middle School teacher named Emily Johnson. He didn’t kill her . Again and again, that’s what he told detectives. But over a period of hours, first with Montoya’s mom present and later alone with the child, the police planted a narrative in the child’s mind. They claimed they’d already retrieved fingerprints, shoe prints and hair samples to back it up. Confused and under enormous pressure, Montoya relented and gave a coerced confession. He was convicted of murder and spent the rest of his childhood and most of his 20s incarcerated, before being exonerated in 2014. It is legal in Colorado and all states but Oregon, Illinois and Utah for police to lie to … [Read more...] about “Women of color lead and it’s a problem”: How Colorado’s last bill of 2022 died

Tax Filings Reveal BLM Co-founder Patrisse Cullors’ Lavish Charity Spending
Black Lives Matter (BLM) co-founder Patrisse Cullors liked to splash the charity’s funds around, according to tax documents filed with the IRS, with her brother and child’s father both benefiting from handsome cash payments in return for various services. Actress Amber Heard admitted to there having been defecation left in actor Johnny Depp’s bed, but blamed it on a teacup Yorkshire Terrier, claiming the dog had “bowl control issues.” Heard suggested Monday on the witness stand that the defecation left in Depp’s bed was produced by their teacup yorkie, Boo, telling the jury that the dog “had eaten Johnny’s weed when she was a puppy, and had bowl control issues for her entire life.” Watch Below: The Aquaman actress was responding to Depp’s shocking claim on the witness stand late last month that Heard or one of her friends had defecated in his bed after an argument in which he said he was leaving her. Amid a Worsening Formula Shortage, Mothers Are Asked: ‘Why Not Breastfeed?’
Before having her third child last month, Joelyz Lugo had planned to breastfeed, but her daughter’s difficult birth derailed such plans. While in the neonatal intensive care unit, her baby needed to be fed formula, and when the pair finally tried breastfeeding, the baby struggled to latch. One month later, with a baby formula shortage making it all but impossible for Ms. Lugo to give up breastfeeding, she has settled into a grueling routine. Every three hours, she hooks herself up to a breast pump to try and boost production, but her milk supply remains low. Ms. Lugo gets less than an ounce of breast milk per pumping session — a fraction of what her daughter needs. Between breastfeeding and pumping and searching stores around her home in New Britain, Conn., in search of formula, she spends hours every day simply trying to ensure her baby has enough to eat. “I have been crying about it because I’m trying my best, and nothing is working,” said Ms. Lugo, 31, who in two weeks is … [Read more...] about Amid a Worsening Formula Shortage, Mothers Are Asked: ‘Why Not Breastfeed?’
GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik: ‘We Need … Trump’s Border Policies’
Republican legislators in the House agree that a GOP majority in 2023 will push to restore President Donald Trump’s border policies, GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik told Breitbart News. “Republicans agree we need to return to President Trump’s effective border security policies — which was the most secure border, certainly in my lifetime, and it was working,” Rep. Elise Stefanik, who chairs the conference committee which represents all GOP members in the House, told Sirius XM’s Breitbart News Daily host Alex Marlow. That chair position makes her a leading spokeswoman for the party’s 2022 campaign promises — and a leader responsible for implementing those promises in 2023. Marlow asked her about the GOP’s response to a consensus border-fix plan recently drafted by a mix of diverse immigration reform groups. The consensus plan describes the steps needed to block illegal migration over the border, and was formally presented on May 11 to 150 GOP legislators, including … [Read more...] about GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik: ‘We Need … Trump’s Border Policies’
