A once-in-a-century pandemic resulted in a once-in-a-decade revenue hit for the Pac-12 and its member universities. The conference on Friday reported $344 million in revenue for the 2021 fiscal year, according to federal tax filings provided to the Hotline in response to a request. That figure constitutes a 36 percent year-over-year drop and the lowest revenue total for the Pac-12 since 2013 (not adjusted for inflation) — the first year of the current media rights agreement with Fox and ESPN and the inaugural year of the Pac-12 Networks. The revenue plunge caused by COVID and the truncated 2020 football season resulted in the conference distributing an average of $19.8 million to each school, a decrease of 41 percent from the prior year (FY20), when the pandemic had a negligible fiscal impact. The Pac-12’s campus distributions, which help support athletic department operations, lagged far behind its Power Five peers, each of which played more football games. Kyrsten Sinema earned one-third of donations since 2021 from corporate PACs
Over one-third of all campaign contributions to Democratic Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema have reportedly come from corporate political action committees (PACs). Sinema has taken in $2.5 million from corporate PACs since 2021, including from those linked to companies actively lobbying against corporate tax increases, according to an article published Tuesday by the Arizona Mirror. During the same period, the senator has opposed attempts to raise corporate taxes, efforts that are supported by President Joe Biden and most of Sinema's Democratic colleagues. An analysis from the Mirror found that Sinema's campaign had received almost $2 million in corporate money, while her own Getting Stuff Done PAC had accepted $567,000 between January 1, 2021, and March 31, 2022. Her campaign raised over $5.8 million in total during the same time, while her PACs received just under $1.1 million. Click here to read the full article. When the iconic indie-rock forebear Pavement last reunited, for a massive tour in 2010, it was a tale of two bands, depending on when you saw them. At the beginning of the run, the lineup was tighter and mightier than ever, playing Coachella with the grit of a band determined to solidify its legacy while collecting paychecks and playing venues exponentially bigger than those it hit during its initial run. If you saw Pavement at the end of the tour, though, you saw a band going through the same issues that led it to break up in the first place. At the Hollywood Bowl on the second-to-last-night of that run, the tension onstage between Stephen Malkmus and the rest of the band was palpable; it was a miracle they got through that show, not to mention the four that followed it, before calling it quits again, seemingly forever. All of which is to say, just the fact that the band was all on the same stage for the first time in 12 years at the … [Read more...] about Pavement Takes the Stage for First Time in 12 Years at Rarities-Filled Tour Warmup Show in L.A.: Concert Review
