Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) was outclassed by his Ukrainian rival, who defied disadvantages in height, reach and weight to win in London by a unanimous decision. Watch: Wimbledon Championships 2022, Day 2: Serena Exits, Nadal Advances “What happened then is in the past, I don’t really live in the past, I’m just present,” the 32-year-old Joshua said at a news conference in London on Wednesday. “I’ll be looking to be competing round-by-round and if I follow my As, Bs and Cs, it should lead me to KO.” The former two-time world heavyweight champion called for “Less talk, more action. World’s most modified man shows what he looked like before tattoos and piercings
A “devil” with more than 500 body modifications , including an eye watering 278 piercings on his genitals, has revealed what he looked like before his transformation. Rolf Buchholz, 62, holds the Guinness World Record for his 516 changes to his body, including the horns implanted to his forehead and his tongue sliced in two. But in new pictures it shows the German was not always the black-eyed “devil” with tattoos covering 90% of his body people now know him as, the Daily Star reports. In one image shared by the computer scientist, he is seen stepping out of the sea without a single visible piercing on his body. His horns added to his forehead means some people call him the devil ( Image: Alamy Stock Photo) German Rolf is the most pierced man in the world ( Image: Getty Images) In another he is seen holding the reins of a horse in large spectacles and longer hair. New Zelensky biography reveals first meeting with Putin: ‘bundle of nerves’
When Russia's Vladimir Putin began a military invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, it was widely assumed that Ukraine would surrender quickly. Instead, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky—an actor-turned-politician famous for playing an actor-turned-politician in Servant of the People —refused to budge, withstood multiple assassination attempts and rallied his people to fight. He pleaded with the international community to implement sanctions on the Russians and to provide weapons and ammunition for the Ukrainians. How did Zelensky accomplish this transformation? Where did he first take Putin's measure? Read about it in this exclusive advance look from Ukrainian journalist and political commentator Serheii Rudenko's upcoming Zelensky: A Biography (Polity Books, July 18), in which he explores Zelensky's life and governing style, from his childhood through the beginnings of the war. In the beginning was the word. Or rather, several words. And, more precisely, the name of … [Read more...] about New Zelensky biography reveals first meeting with Putin: ‘bundle of nerves’
No star, no problem: Rogue planets could incubate life for billions of years
Scientists once assumed that the best place to look for extraterrestrial life would be planets within their star ’s habitable, or “Goldilocks” zone, that narrow range of orbits where water remains liquid on a planet ’s surface. Around our Sun , the habitable zone stretches from just outside the orbit of Venus to just outside the orbit of Mars, with Earth squarely in the middle. But new research suggests scientists searching for habitable planets should look outside habitable zones — way outside. In a paper published Monday in the journal Nature astronomy, researchers from the universities of Bern and Zurich conclude that certain super Earth exoplanets — rocky planets between 2 and 10 times Earth’s mass — could remain habitable for forms of life at distances 10 times that of Earth from the Sun. Some planets could even remain habitable for tens of billions of years after getting expelled from their solar system, becoming strange oases wandering interstellar … [Read more...] about No star, no problem: Rogue planets could incubate life for billions of years
Astronomers discover closest rocky ‘super Earth’ planets yet, per Nasa
Nasa ’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, or Tess , recently spotted two new rocky, Earth-like planets around nearby stars, among the closest ever discovered near our Solar System . The two exoplanets orbit a red dwarf star just 33 light years away from Earth known as HD 260655. The planets derive their name from their star: HD 260655 b and HD 260655 c. The planets are “super Earths,” rocky planets like our own, but somewhat larger, with HD 260655 b coming in at 1.2 times the size of Earth and HD 260655 c at 1.5 times the size of our planet. The planets were discovered in Tess data by an international team of astronomers led by Rafael Luque of the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia, Spain, and the University of Chicago, and the discovery was first presented earlier in June at the 240th meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Pasadena California. Launched in 2018, Tess hunts the sky for exoplanets using the transit method, that is, staring at … [Read more...] about Astronomers discover closest rocky ‘super Earth’ planets yet, per Nasa
China has a new mission to look for alien life
China is launching a new mission to look for potentially habitable alien worlds. The mission, called the Closeby Habitable Exoplanet Survey (CHES), will take ultraprecise measurements of the movement of stars and compare whether they are under the influence of a gravitational pull; if they are, it is more likely they have exoplanets orbiting around them. This mission would also be able to provide estimates of the masses of exoplanets and the distance between them and their host stars, which could provide more information about whether these planets could home life. Currently, the mission is targeting 100 stars similar to our own Sun within a radius of 10 parsecs (33 light years) of our own planet. "CHES would be a fabulous addition to exoplanet exploration," said Elizabeth Tasker, an associate professor at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, told Space . Recommended Lilibet to celebrate first birthday in the UK China is putting a … [Read more...] about China has a new mission to look for alien life
First Webb Telescope images on 12 July just an appetizer for more science
It took more than 20 years to conceive of, design, build, test, launch, position, calibrate and commission Nasa ’s James Webb Space Telescope , and on 12 July, the world will begin to see the fruits of this scientific labor. That’s when Nasa will unveil the first images taken by the $10 billion space telescope, images that will include the deepest image of the cosmos ever taken. And that’s just the appetizer, Nasa’s associate administrator for the space agency ’s Science Mission Directorate Thomas Zurbuchen said at a Wednesday press conference. Given Webb’s powerful optics — just about every view of the universe will be groundbreaking. “With this telescope, it’s really hard not to break records,” Dr Zurbuchen said. While Nasa officials revealed few details of the forthcoming Webb images on Wednesday, they provided some clues based on the known scientific priorities for the space telescope. It’s a scientific instrument designed to peer into the very earliest … [Read more...] about First Webb Telescope images on 12 July just an appetizer for more science
