2 Feared Dead After Earthquake Hits Osaka in Western Japan

A strong earthquake knocked over walls and set off scattered fires around the city of Osaka in western Japan on Monday morning, and at least two people were feared dead. Japan's Fire and Disaster Management Agency said two people were found with no vital signs and 41 others had been injured. Japanese media reported one of the likely victims is a 9-year-old girl at a school. Japanese authorities don't confirm death until after an examination at a hospital. The magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck shortly after 8 a.m. north of Osaka at a depth of about 13 kilometers, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The initial strength of the quake was measured at 5.9. The strongest shaking was north of Osaka, the agency said. Located in the Keihanshin Metropolitan Area in the Kansai region of Japan, it is the second largest city in the country by daytime population. According to a 2015 census the city has around 2.6million inhabitants. What magnitude was the earthquake and how many people were killed? The earthquake hit Osaka on the morning of June 18, 2018, with a 6.1 magnitude on Japan's quake scale - a level that makes it difficult to remain standing. Japanese comedians apologise for saying Naomi Osaka needs bleach

Japanese comedy duo 'A Masso' said that Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka needs some bleach. Their comments came during a live event, after which anti-racism activists around the world started criticising them. The duo has since issued a public apology for their comment.During the event, A Masso said that Osaka was "too sunburned." The comment didn't go over well with tennis fans. It was alleged that the Australian Open title holder's brown skin colour was the reason behind such mockery by the Japanese duo.The 21-year-old won her first Pan-Pacific Open title last Sunday in Osaka. She defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the final, 6-2, 6-3.Ever since the Japanese duo's remarks came in, they have been thrashed on social media sites. Keys fends off Osaka to reach French Open last 16

PARIS (Reuters) – American 13th seed Madison Keys overcame a second-set wobble to beat Japan’s Naomi Osaka 6-1 7-6(7) and reach the last 16 of the French Open for the second time on Friday. A match between two of the biggest hitters on the WTA Tour failed to really catch fire on a cool and half-empty Suzanne Lenglen Court with Keys helped on her way to the first set by a succession of wild errors from Osaka. Keys broke for a 3-1 lead in the second set and looked to be closing in on a straightforward victory when 21st seed Osaka suddenly found her range and levelled the set. Osaka’s mini-revival looked to have fizzled out when she dropped serve with a double-fault at 4-4. Keys squandered a match point in the next game, however, and the 23-year-old U.S. Open runner-up looked increasingly tight as the set moved into a tiebreaker.
