The GST Council , which is scheduled to meet next week in Chandigarh , is likely to discuss changes in law to facilitate provision for setting up GST Tribunals. The Council will also discuss the group of ministers’ ( GoM ) report on online gaming, casinos and race courses, sources told CNBC-TV18. The GoM met on June 17 and discussed issues like tax slabs and rates, among others. The GoM, which was appointed by the GST Council last year to suggest ways for augmenting revenue by rationalising tax rates and correcting anomalies in the tax structure, has recommended that the imposition of GST on casinos, race courses, online gaming and lottery should be uniform both in rates and valuation norms, the sources told CNBC-TV18. It also recommended that no distinction should be made on grounds of game of skill or game of chance for the purpose of the levy of GST. The panel added that the rate of GST on all such activities should be 28 per cent, they said. On the valuation, GoM said … [Read more...] about GST Council May Discuss Changes In Law To Set Up Tribunals; GoM Report On Online Gaming, Casinos

Ukraine Confirms Fall of Sievierodonetsk After Weeks-long Fight

June 25, 2022 by www.news18.com

Russian forces have fully occupied Sievierodonetsk, the mayor of the eastern Ukrainian city said on Saturday, confirming Ukraine’s biggest battlefield setback for more than a month, after weeks of some of the bloodiest fighting of the war. Pro-Russian separatists said Moscow’s forces were now attacking the last major Ukrainian-held bastion in eastern Luhansk province, Sievierodonetsk’s twin city Lysychansk on the opposite bank of the Siverskyi Donets river. The fall of Sievierodonetsk – once home to more than 100,000 people, now a wasteland – was Russia’s biggest victory since capturing the port of Mariupol last month. It transforms the battlefield in the east after weeks in which Moscow’s huge advantage in firepower had yielded only slow gains. Russia will now be hoping to press on and seize more ground on the opposite bank, while Ukraine will hope that the price Moscow paid to capture the ruins of the small city will leave Russia’s forces vulnerable to a counterattack in … [Read more...] about Ukraine Confirms Fall of Sievierodonetsk After Weeks-long Fight

Russian missiles pound Ukraine as troops withdraw from key eastern city of Sievierodonetsk

June 25, 2022 by www.nbcnews.com

Ukrainian troops have “almost left” Sievierodonetsk after weeks of intense fighting against Russian forces , the mayor of the eastern city said on Saturday, signaling the biggest setback for Ukraine since losing the port of Mariupol in May. The retreat from Sievierodonetsk, if confirmed, would bring Moscow close to full control of Luhansk, with Ukrainian troops in the province largely holding out only in Sievierodonetsk’s twin city Lysychansk, across the Siverskyi Donets river. “Unfortunately, they have almost left the city,” Mayor Oleksandr Stryuk said on national television. He did not confirm whether a full withdrawal was underway after regional authorities said on Friday that Ukraine was set to withdraw its troops from there. Russia’s pro-Kremlin Izvestia newspaper said one of its correspondents had arrived in the Azot industrial zone of Sievierodonetsk, where Ukrainian forces had been making a stand in recent weeks. Ramzan Kadyrov , the head of Russia’s … [Read more...] about Russian missiles pound Ukraine as troops withdraw from key eastern city of Sievierodonetsk

Jipmer faculty stage protest

June 24, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

The Jipmer Faculty Association has come out openly against the institute’s current administration for failing the system in providing patient care and addressing the grievances of employees. A large number of faculty members on Friday staged a token protest in front of the administrative complex to highlight the administration’s failure to address shortage of essential drugs, rectify internet connectivity, lack of campus security and employees welfare. President of the Association Raveendran told The Hindu that the institute has never faced such crisis in the last 40 years. Essential drugs, surgical materials, including surgical suture and gloves are not available for the last six months. According to a faculty, a combination of factors had led to shortage in drugs and other materials. Even vitamin tables, anti-diabetic drugs and essential antibiotics such as meropenem are not available for several months, he said.. Human-trafficking horror ends for two teens

June 26, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

KUALA LUMPUR: Expecting to earn a high pay overseas, two teenage friends who answered an online job advertisement ended up working 12-hour shifts for scammers in Myanmar. They managed to return home safely on Friday – but not before their families paid RM10,000 to a human-trafficking syndicate for their release, ending their three-month ordeal. The syndicate agreed to let them go because it could not find a use for the duo, aged 14 and 15, who had failed to reach the scamming targets set out for them. The victims from Bera, Pahang, arrived in Malaysia after various matters, including documentation, were settled. Recalling their ordeal, the 15-year-old boy said he was attracted by advertisements on Facebook and Instagram offering a “customer service job” with a monthly salary of between RM5,000 and RM7,000. “I was drawn by the high salary and I also wanted more freedom. “My buddy and I were brought to Myanmar on March 22, where we were kept at a compound in Marwadi,” he told … [Read more...] about Human-trafficking horror ends for two teens
