Customers at Murphy USA gas stations have claimed in recent weeks that they've received diesel fuel instead of regular gasoline when filling up their vehicles. A driver in Claremore, Oklahoma, said that her car was filled with diesel at a Murphy USA location, news station KOTV reported. "Noticed after driving my car just a little ways it started bogging down, my jeep was bogging down, not having power, kind of spurting, things like that," the customer, Kelly Watson, told the news station. She said she learned that others had reported similar problems and that she may have to spend hundreds of dollars to repair her car after the alleged mixup. But she told KOTV that she hopes the company will cover the costs. "It's just aggravating, nobody has that type of money, you go get gas, you trust it to be gas," Watson said. Last month in Wichita Falls, Texas, news station KFDX reported that several people claimed their cars were filled with diesel instead of normal gasoline at a … [Read more...] about Drivers claim trend in gas station wrongly putting diesel in tanks

Oil shipments from Russia resume to Czechia
PRAGUE (AP) — Oil shipments from Russia through a critical pipeline to Czechia resumed Friday after more than a week, the Czech pipeline operator Mero said. Czechia became the last central European country after Slovakia and Hungary to receive deliveries from the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline after a problem over payments for transit was resolved. Russian state pipeline operator Transneft said Tuesday it halted shipments through the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline, which runs through Ukraine to Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary. The northern leg of the Druzhba pipeline, which runs through Belarus to Poland and Germany, was unaffected. Transneft cited complications due to European Union sanctions for its action on Aug. 4, saying its payment to the company’s Ukrainian counterpart was refused. On Wednesday, the payment was made by Slovak refiner Slovnaft after both Russia and Ukraine agreed to the solution. Slovnaft is owned by Hungary’s MOL energy group. ‘I was so poor I stole sandwiches from Poundland and have cold baths to save money’
A desperate Brit says he was forced to steal sandwiches from Poundland due to the crippling cost of living crisis. Former delivery driver Steve Anthony, 42, said he had exhausted "every other avenue" before pinching the food. Mr Anthony stopped shoplifting after receiving help from a local community hub, although many other Brits are turning to crime to survive. Shops have reported a big rise in theft of essential low-value items from milk, cheese and cooking oil to baby milk and nappies. Mum-of-four Lisa Ann has also admitted that she too had stolen from a Co-op due to soaring energy and food prices. Both she and Steve also save money through various means, such as washing themselves in cold water and eating just once a day as a result of the cost of living crisis. Household energy bills increased by 54 per cent in April this year, and are likely to continue spiralling with analysts predicting that the October price cap could hit £3,359. Steve, from Sheffield, … [Read more...] about ‘I was so poor I stole sandwiches from Poundland and have cold baths to save money’
‘We need to put the heat on selfish fatcats so we can actually afford to turn it on’
Remember the old days when we used to compare holiday snaps? Now the only thing we seem to be comparing is our energy bills . “How much is your direct debit ?” and “How much have your bills gone up by?” Never have gas and electricity prices been such a hot topic. While there are the lucky ones who claim their bills have not increased as much as they feared, it is safe to say that by January next year we will all be feeling the heat. Just not from our radiators as we won’t be able to afford to put them on. Brits have seen their energy bills going up ( Image: PA) We got an email from British Gas this week saying our annual bill was going up from £760 to £9,300! That must be a mistake because we aren’t suddenly powering the Blackpool Illuminations but it sent my blood pressure soaring. Blackouts this winter? I nearly blacked out there and then. Money saving expert Martin Lewis says that this is a crisis on a par with the pandemic as average energy bills will … [Read more...] about ‘We need to put the heat on selfish fatcats so we can actually afford to turn it on’

Tricolour to the rescue of SHGs
Women tailors attached to self-help groups (SHGs) in the State have been literally burning the midnight oil as they are busy stitching national flags as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga project. Prema Duraipandi of Priyadarshini SHG in Kancheepuram, who got the orders to stitch 15,000 flags, has been distributing the work among nine other groups. “We have ensured that the material is cotton and pre-ordered the cloth from Erode. The women each get ₹1.50 to ₹2 per flag that they stitch. On Tuesday night, I distributed the material for 5,000 flags and by Wednesday morning many have returned the tailored pieces,” she said. Ms. Duraipandi and the eight tailoring members in her group began stitching cloth bags since they wanted to leave behind something good for the next generation. “This helps bring small income for the women and the homes. I have suffered quite a bit in life and if this income can prevent others from getting hurt, I will be happy. It would be nice if such schemes are … [Read more...] about Tricolour to the rescue of SHGs
Ration shops in Kerala to diversify services
Ration shops may shortly sport an altogether different look as the State Civil Supplies department gears up to roll out the concept of K-Store, diversifying the services available. Under the initiative, ration shops will double up as Akshaya centres besides dealing in small 5-kg gas cylinders, Milma products and subsidised articles of Supplyco. To begin with, five ration shops have been identified in every district across the State for the rollout of the project. In Ernakulam district, a ration shop each has been identified in Kochi, Kothamangalam, and Aluva taluks, while two have been earmarked in Kunnathunadu taluk based on the space available and meeting the governing conditions for the proposed project. While the project is yet to be officially launched, its logo is already out. Ration shops identified for K-Store should have at least 300 sq ft space and there should be no Akshaya centre or bank in the 1.5-km radius. “The project is likely to benefit the rural areas … [Read more...] about Ration shops in Kerala to diversify services
North Carolina deputy killed; search on for shooter
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 2 RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A sheriff’s deputy was killed along a dark stretch of road in North Carolina and authorities were searching Friday for whoever fired the shots. “We will find who’s responsible for this loss. Even in the midst of the hurt and the pain, we ask for prayers, we ask for patience as we go about finding out what happened and who’s responsible,” Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker said at a news conference early Friday morning. The sheriff’s office tweeted that the deputy was fatally shot in the line of duty after 11 p.m. Thursday. It happened on a dark section of Battle Bridge Road adjacent to open land about a quarter mile from a gas station, sheriff’s office spokesperson Eric Curry said by telephone. “We don't know if it was a traffic stop,” Curry said. “We're trying to gather why the deputy stopped where he did.” Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies were in the … [Read more...] about North Carolina deputy killed; search on for shooter
Congress OKs Dems’ climate, health bill, a Biden triumph
By ALAN FRAM WASHINGTON (AP) — A divided Congress gave final approval Friday to Democrats’ flagship climate and health care bill, handing President Joe Biden a back-from-the-dead triumph on coveted priorities that the party hopes will bolster their prospects for keeping their hold on Congress in November’s elections. The House used a party-line 220-207 vote to pass the legislation, which is but a shadow of the larger, more ambitious plan to supercharge environment and social programs that Biden and his party envisioned early last year. Even so, Democrats happily declared victory on top-tier goals like providing Congress’ largest ever investment in curbing carbon emissions, reining in pharmaceutical costs and taxing large companies, a vote they believe will show they can wring accomplishments from a routinely gridlocked Washington that often disillusions voters. “Today is a day of celebration, a day we take another giant step in our momentous agenda,” said House Speaker Nancy … [Read more...] about Congress OKs Dems’ climate, health bill, a Biden triumph
