U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Waters was joking with a fellow soldier who was sitting in the front of their Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle. Waters, a medic, was in the back by himself; three other soldiers were up front. Then, an explosion rocked their MRAP. "I remember them yelling at me," Waters said, adding that a sergeant in the front of the truck was yelling "Doc! Doc! Doc!" What happened next would earn Water, who is now a Army recruiter in southeastern Michigan, the nation's second highest military honor for heroism. The Distinguished Service Cross was bestowed upon Waters during a ceremony Wednesday at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township.
