María Amparo Plaza’s neighbors in the eastern Spanish city of Valencia had not seen her for several years and assumed she had moved away, according to Spanish newspaper El País. However, the truth emerged when a fellow resident of the building peered through her apartment window. The neighbor—named only as César by local newspaper Levante-EMV—reportedly suspected something was amiss when he noticed the same old clothes were still hanging outside the apartment of Plaza, who would now be 78 years old. Coca-Cola embroiled in row with small Spanish distillery who claim THEY invented the famous recipe and called drink Kola Coca
A DISTILLERY in a small Spanish town has claimed it invented the original Coca-Cola recipe and now wants recognition. The recipe for what was originally called ‘Kola-coca’ is reportedly kept in a safe at Destilerías Ayelo, in the village of of Aielo de Malferit, south of Valencia, so the owner Juan Juan Micó, 79, claims. The drink Kola-cocoa is said to be a precursor to the now world famous brand, according to Mr Micó and the village’s officials. Although there is no direct proof that Coca-Cola started life in Spain, the village’s authorities have written to the US company asking permission to publicly explain the connection. The people in the village of just 4,700 inhabitants believe the syrup that John Pemberton used in Coca-Cola was originally concocted by the local distillery. The town’s mayor José Luis Pinter told Spanish newspaper El País: “Everything points to this being the case. “Our aim is to get Coca-Cola to … [Read more...] about Coca-Cola embroiled in row with small Spanish distillery who claim THEY invented the famous recipe and called drink Kola Coca

THE Aquarius is operated by the charity SOS Mediterranean, which said on Twitter on Sunday that the group on board were mainly sub-Saharan Africans picked up in six different rescue operations off the coast of Libya. The ship had been stranded in the Mediterranean as both Italy and Malta refused to allow the vessel into port. Where is the Aquarius ship now? Ryanair passengers’ shock as suitcase and handbag ‘shredded and soaked by Manchester airport baggage handlers’
HOLIDAYMAKERS returning from Spain claim their luggage was “shredded and soaked” by baggage handlers. Paul and Margot Seymour were waiting for their luggage at Manchester Airport after a Ryanair flight from Valencia. The couple claim their belongings were “absolutely destroyed” when they picked up their items from the arrivals hall. They say a suitcase was “sodden wet” when they picked it up, a fleece was ripped with a massive hole in it and a handbag had the bottom “sheared off”. It is unclear where the luggage was damaged. Mr Seymour, 60, a retired police officer, from Llandrindod Wells in Mid Wales, told the MEN his wife's £45 suitcase, fleece and handbag were ruined. Swissport is in charge of baggage handling. Mr Seymour said: "They've not just been damaged, they're totally destroyed. The bottom of the handbag had been sheared off. "We actually saw the bags go up the conveyor belt into the hold in Valencia, so we're pretty sure … [Read more...] about Ryanair passengers’ shock as suitcase and handbag ‘shredded and soaked by Manchester airport baggage handlers’
Dog Missing for Four Years is Back Home for the Holidays
Jairo Morales just couldn't say no to that face, especially on Christmas Eve. Morales was taking his own dog for a walk Monday when he noticed a small dog limping in the street. He noticed the dog was a Shih Tzu -- just like his dog, Princess. "She had mud all over her face -- she was dirty," said Morales. "She came running immediately and limping. "When I saw her, I saw my own dog's face. I didn't have the heart to leave her there, just on the street." Morales' compassion for the lonely little dog set in motion a chain of events that brightened the holidays for a Valencia family. He scooped her up, took her home and, with animal services closed for the holiday, spent Christmas Day with the dog and Princess. He even gave her a red collar. The next day, Morales took the dog to Roxford Veterinary Clinic to see whether she had a microchip -- a chip about the size of a grain of rice that's injected between a dog's shoulder blades. Each chip has a code that's entered in a … [Read more...] about Dog Missing for Four Years is Back Home for the Holidays
