Since Solskjaer's honeymoon period came to an end in March they have won just five out of 19 matches in all competitions. After nine successive away victories under the Norwegian in all competitions, they have now gone nine without a win and are already 10 points behind leaders Liverpool. And it has all come at a time when their two main rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool, are setting new standards at … [Read more...] about Can Solskjaer Save Manchester United’s Season?

ARCH Corbynista union bosses yesterday threatened a general strike unless Theresa May delivers Brexit – as the TUC descended into civil war over a second referendum. Delegates at the TUC conference in Manchester yesterday voted to keep open the option of a referendum on the final Brexit deal. And TUC boss Frances O’Grady reiterated her calls to extend Article 50 process – which would keep Britain as an EU member beyond next March. But the militant Bakers Union echoed the RMT in savaging plans for a People’s Vote – and warned there should be no “dilution” of the EU vote. And Unite boss ‘Red Len’ McCluskey also spoke out against the campaign – storming: “That people’s vote has already happened”. Sarah Woolley, organising regional secretary of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union threatened mass industrial action if Brexit isn’t delivered properly. She told a fringe meeting at the conference: "The … [Read more...] about Corbynista union bosses at the TUC conference in Manchester ‘threaten a general strike’ unless PM delivers Brexit
The bicentenary of one of Britain’s bloodiest political struggles will be marked in Manchester on Friday with a series of events in memory of the Peterloo Massacre. Picnics, a march and special exhibitions are taking place in the city marking the deadly event, which became a defining moment in British democracy. As many as 60,000 disenfranchised workers had gathered in St Peters Fields on August 16, 1819 to listen to radical reformers rallying the crowds and demanding change. When magistrates ordered the speakers to be arrested, the cavalry was sent in and spectators were trampled by horses. What followed has now gone down in history as the worst violence ever to occur at a political meeting in Britain. At least 15 people died, hundreds were injured. The events prompted John Edward Taylor to start his own newspaper — The Manchester Guardian — to campaign for reform. The event became known as the Peterloo Massacre – a name coined by a journalist in reference to … [Read more...] about Peterloo Massacre in Manchester remembered 200 years on
LABOUR has pushed thousands of its core supporters to the far right because of its failure to take on Muslim extremism, a union boss has warned. Unite assistant general secretary Steve Turner tore into the Labour leadership for remaining silent during last year’s Islamist terror attacks in London and Manchester. And he blasted the Left for failing to criticise despotic regimes such as Iran but being the first to protest against Donald Trump and the Israeli government. He warned that it had left many men lacking a voice to vent their anger - and had driven them to far-right groups such as the Democratic Football Lads Alliance (DFLA). Speaking at an anti-racism fringe meeting at the TUC conference, Mr Turner fumed: “We need to stop talking to ourselves and talk to the people who are drawn to some of these organisations – for a multitude of different reasons." He said many who had been driven to far right groups had "genuine fears and concerns”. Mr Turner, a … [Read more...] about Labour’s failure to tackle Muslim extremism has ‘pushed core supporters to join far right groups’, Unite boss warns
MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is likely to be fit for this weekend's Premier League visit to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Thursday. The France international picked up a knock in a challenge by Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey in United's 2-0 win at St James' Park on Jan. 2 and was struggling to recover. Pogba did not play in last weekend's FA Cup third-round win over Reading and travelled separately from the squad to a warm-weather training camp in Dubai after staying back for treatment. "He looked okay towards the end (of the training camp), so he'll be fit," caretaker manager Solskjaer was quoted as telling a news conference on the United website. "He did have some problems but he came through the last couple of sessions well, so he should be okay." United have a perfect record under Solskjaer, who took over in December, with Pogba playing a key role in the league wins over Cardiff City, … [Read more...] about United’s Pogba should be fit to face Spurs says Solskjaer
