Madison barbershop health center for black men will expand to fight health disparities

Last week, a man came in to the Men’s Health and Education Center on Madison’s west side and received a blood pressure screening. His blood pressure was so high that he needed medical attention, but he didn’t have health insurance. He mentioned he’d been suffering from mouth pain for over four years.Just 72 hours later, he had two teeth removed, was loaned the $2 he didn’t have for prescription painkillers after the tooth procedure, and was on his way to BadgerCare.“He had just accepted he was going to live with this pain, and now he’s on the road to recovery,” said Aaron Perry, who founded the health center. “He even said to me, ‘Man, where do you come from?’ I said to him, ‘That’s what we do for one another.’”That man might never have made it into a doctor’s office. Law school had asked students to watch for ‘suspicious’ grad who later opened fire on deputies

Officials at the University of Wyoming College of Law had asked students to be on the lookout for one of its graduates, Matthew Riehl, less than two months before he opened fire on several deputies in suburban Denver.Officers killed Riehl, a 37-year-old Iraq war veteran, after he opened fire early Sunday and fatally shot Zackari Parrish, a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy, report Law.com (subl. req.), the Associated Press, Fox31, K2Radio and the Denver Post. Riehl live-streamed the shooting in which he also wounded four other officers and two bystanders in adjacent apartments.The school was concerned about Facebook posts by Riehl targeting UW law professors, including one post in which he said he dreamed about raping a former professor, according to Fox31.Riehl had graduated from the law school in 2010 and received a license to practice law in Wyoming in May 2011.
