Stuart Broad has entered the record books for an unwanted reason after bowling the most expensive over in Test cricket history. The England cricketer - whose pub was severely damaged by a fire last month - conceded a whopping 35 runs in one over against India at Edgbaston on Saturday - seven more than the previous record. Moments earlier the 36-year-old had been celebrating after becoming only the sixth bowler ever to take 550 wickets in Test cricket - before his fortunes faded dramatically. Over the course of eight remarkable deliveries - in what is usually a six-ball over - India captain and tailender Jasprit Bumrah hit Broad for 23, including four fours and a six. Broad also served up a wide that went all the way for four and a no-ball that Bumrah top-edged for six. Advertisement Twitter Due to your consent preferences, you’re not able to view this. Royal Mail strike – what could happen as union ballots workers to walk out over pay
The summer of disruption could move from the train stations to the postal service as more than 100,000 Royal Mail workers choose whether to join strikes. Right-wing commentators have suggested Britain is returning to the 1970s - a decade when there were three-day weeks to deal with miners and railway workers striking, and a winter of discontent caused by pay row walkouts - due to the number of industrial disputes flaring up. Railway workers crippled the train network three times in a week earlier this month over pay wrangling, while barristers have walked out of courts in protest at their pay. Meanwhile, BA workers at Heathrow have agreed to strike and firefighters are weighing up a below-inflation wage rise offer. Postal workers could become the latest to agree to join what is being dubbed the "summer of discontent" and the largest industrial action seen in a generation. Are postal workers going on strike? The CWU says some Royal Mail workers are being … [Read more...] about Royal Mail strike – what could happen as union ballots workers to walk out over pay
Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission: After tardy start, Karnataka plans full coverage in six months
Karnataka, which ranked low at 14th in India in the number of Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs), has set up an ambitious target of creating the unique health identity cards for the entire population in the next six months. In a fortnight after State Health Commissioner Randeep D. was appointed as the State Mission Director for Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), the number of registered healthcare facilities have shot up from 12 to 202 and the number of registered health professionals has increased from 96 to 124. With 800 integrators and over 40 digital health service applications integrated into it, the ABDM aims to digitise healthcare delivery by building an ecosystem that rides on collaboration between the government and the private sector. Under the ABDM, every citizen would be provided with a unique health identity. Along with it, a comprehensive registry of all the doctors — from superspecialists to general physicians — will be collated. “Fierce battles”: Ukraine disputes claims Russian forces seized Lysychansk
The Ukrainian government on Saturday denied claims that Russian forces seized a new city, as the invading army continues its major assault on the Luhansk region. Reports recently emerged that Russian forces had taken complete control of Lysychansk, the last city it would need to fully control the Luhansk region in Eastern Ukraine. Along with Donetsk, the region makes up the highly contested Donbas area, which has been at the heart of Russia's invasion from the beginning. On Saturday, the National Guard of Ukraine spoke out against these claims during a telethon, explaining that the city remains under Ukrainian control despite Russian efforts, Interfax reported. "Now there are fierce battles near Lysychansk," Ruslan Muzychuk, speaker of the Ukrainian National Guard, said. "However, fortunately, the city is not surrounded and is under the control of the Ukrainian army." Ukrainian and Russian officials have released statements amid the ongoing conflict over Lysychansk and the … [Read more...] about “Fierce battles”: Ukraine disputes claims Russian forces seized Lysychansk
Ukraine War: Pro-Russia Rebels Claim to ‘Encircle’ Key Lysychansk in Donbas, Kyiv Denies
Fighting raged Saturday for Ukraine’s strategic Lysychansk, as Kyiv denied a claim by Moscow-backed separatists that they had encircled the eastern city. Clashes have been intense in Lysychansk, the last major city in the Lugansk region of the Donbas still in Ukrainian hands, located across the river from neighbouring Severodonetsk seized by Russia last week. The city’s capture will allow Russian forces to push deeper into the battleground Donbas region, which has become the focus of their offensive since failing to capture Kyiv after invading in late February. “Fighting rages around Lysychansk… The city has not been encircled and is under control of the Ukrainian army,” Ruslan Muzytchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian National Guard, said on Ukrainian television. Earlier in the day, Andrei Marotchko, a spokesman for the separatist forces, told the TASS news agency: “Lysychansk is completely encircled.” The announcements come as missiles continue to rain down across Ukraine, … [Read more...] about Ukraine War: Pro-Russia Rebels Claim to ‘Encircle’ Key Lysychansk in Donbas, Kyiv Denies
Sanctions War: Germans Told to Prepare for Gas Shortages
BERLIN (AP) – Fearing Russia might cut off natural gas supplies, the head of Germany’s regulatory agency for energy called on residents Saturday to save energy and to prepare for winter, when use increases. Federal Network Agency President Klaus Mueller urged house and apartment owners to have their gas boilers and radiators checked and adjusted to maximize their efficiency. “Maintenance can reduce gas consumption by 10 per cent to 15 per cent,” he told Funke Mediengruppe, a German newspaper and magazine publisher. Mueller said residents and property owners need to use the 12 weeks before cold weather sets in to get ready. He said families should start talking now about “whether every room needs to be set at its usual temperature in the winter — or whether some rooms can be a little colder.” The appeal came after Russia reduced gas flows to Germany, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia earlier this month, as European Union countries scramble to refill storage … [Read more...] about Sanctions War: Germans Told to Prepare for Gas Shortages

Two Players’ IDs Deactivated by BAI Due to Age-fraud in U-13 Event
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) on Saturday deactivated the IDs (identity documents) of two players for being overaged but said their quantum of punishment will be decided later by the Age Fraud Committee. Multiple cases of age-fudging were reported during the All India Sub-Junior under-13 ranking tournament (June 19 to 25) in Hyderabad and at the ongoing U-13 event in Mohali. Things escalated after more than 60 aggrieved parents protested against the BAI for not taking immediate action, forcing the organisers to stop the matches and postpone the proceedings by a day. “There were complaints against two players from Rajasthan and after getting proof of age fudging we have deactivated their IDs. Further decision on punishment will be taken by the Age Fruad Committee,” BAI secretary Sanjay Mishra told PTI. “These two players had submitted false birth certificates while making their IDs and after we were made aware of the real documents and verified by the corporation, … [Read more...] about Two Players’ IDs Deactivated by BAI Due to Age-fraud in U-13 Event
