Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the West to stop playing around with Russia and impose tougher sanctions on Moscow to end its "senseless war" in Ukraine, adding his country would remain independent, the only question was at what price. Mr. Zelensky's criticism of the West has mounted in recent days as the European Union moves slowly towards a possible Russian oil embargo and as thousands of Russian forces try to encircle two key eastern cities of Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk. Meanwhile, United States officials say the Biden administration is aiming to lead the international bloc opposed to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine into a broader coalition to counter what it sees as a more serious, long-term threat to global order from China. Russian officials deny they urged Vladimir Putin to stop war
Two Russian officials who purportedly signed an appeal addressed to Russian President Putin demanding an end to his war in Ukraine have denied doing so, shortly after their colleague was called a traitor and escorted from a high-level meeting. Lawmakers Natalya Kochugova, and Aleksandr Sustov were, according to Leonid Vasyukevich, a fellow member of Russia' s Communist Party, two of the four officials to have signed an appeal to Putin, urging him to stop the months-long war in Ukraine and to withdraw his troops from the country. Vasyukevich told a session of the Legislative Assembly of Russia's Primorsky Krai in the far east that the group is demanding an end to the war. "We understand that if our country does not stop this military operation, there will be more orphans," Vasyukevich said, in a rare critique of what Putin describes as a "special military operation." Reading a statement that he said he, his colleague Gennady Shulga, as well as Kochugova and Sustov had … [Read more...] about Russian officials deny they urged Vladimir Putin to stop war

It has been part of the United States since Alaska was bought from Russia back in 1867. In the Second World War, the island was used by US forces as an airfield and marked as a possible target for Japanese troops. Her daughter was shot on live TV. Now she’s marching to demand gun control
Alison Parker had a close relationship with her mom. On Mother's Day in 2015, she took both of her parents wine-tasting and hiking around the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. And every Monday, she met her mom after her morning shift ended at the local news station to share lunch and do some shopping. "Those are the things I miss," Barbara Parker tells Newsweek . The world watched in horror when Alison, a 24-year-old reporter, was fatally shot on live TV on August 26, 2015, along with her colleague Adam Ward, a 27-year-old photojournalist, both with WDBJ7. The two were conducting a live interview at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Virginia, when a gunman approached and killed them. The suspect, later identified as a former employee at their Roanoke news station, fatally shot himself before police could apprehend him. Much of the aftermath of the shooting played out on social media, as the suspect posted video footage and updates to Twitter as he fled. Who’s to blame for the rioting at Donald Trump rallies?
Shortly after protesters clashed with Donald Trump supporters Thursday night in San Jose, California, conservatives began blaming liberals for rioting against a presidential candidate. Liberals pointed a finger at the Republican presumptive nominee for his incendiary rhetoric and the violence of his own supporters. It's a cycle that seems likely to continue until November's election. Jim Geraghty, conservative blogger and National Review contributor, recently compared the demonstrators' rhetoric and signs at Trump rallies to those seen at Occupy Wall Street, with the Black Lives Matter movement and at the World Trade Organization protests that rocked Seattle in 1999. "There seems to be this sense in some newsrooms that left-wing protests are somehow inherently less violent, and if there is violence, it's somehow justified or understandable as a reaction to provocation from the right," he said in May. The post-rioting blame game extended to the East Coast Friday afternoon when … [Read more...] about Who’s to blame for the rioting at Donald Trump rallies?
