Man steals car with child in back as mom yells ‘you’re taking my baby’

July 10, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

A man has allegedly stolen a car with a 5-year-old sitting in the backseat while her mother left the car running as she went into Texaco Sunday morning in Alabama. The mother ran outside the Ashville store after she saw that the man, identified as 45-year-old Michael Sawyer, jumped into her car and drove off with her child, Al.com reported. "She started yelling, 'You're taking my baby,'" Ashville police Chief Ed Hampton said. But Sawyer didn't stop the car, the chief added. Authorities said that a lookout bulletin was issued for the car and the child. Meanwhile, the girl started crying for her mother, but Sawyer told her to be quiet and that he will drop her when it becomes safe to do so, according to Hampton. Child and Mother 'Shaken' Sawyer then left the child on the side of Highway 11 a while later where a woman passing by picked her up after she saw her crying. The child was not injured, according to Trussville Police lieutenant Clint Riner. "It was very stressful but … [Read more...] about Man steals car with child in back as mom yells ‘you’re taking my baby’

Feds require additional water cuts as the Colorado River sinks deeper into drought and overuse

August 16, 2022 by www.denverpost.com

Seven western states and the 40 million people in them that depend on the Colorado River can’t yet agree how to use less water and Tuesday federal officials asked them to cut even deeper. The river is drying and those western states — Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah — have been drawing too much water for years, heading toward disaster . The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation gave the states until Monday to voluntarily find a way to save at least 21% of the river’s annual flows, threatening to take over the process and impose its own cuts. The states didn’t make the deadline and instead experts worry the states are fracturing at a time when they most need to work together. “They are not singing ‘Kumbaya’ right now,” Kyle Roerink, executive director of the Great Basin Water Network told The Denver Post. “ They’re sharpening their knives. ” At the same time, conditions along the Colorado River are expected to worsen so much in the coming … [Read more...] about Feds require additional water cuts as the Colorado River sinks deeper into drought and overuse

Fact Check: Joe Biden Falsely Claims ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ Does Not Subsidize Foreign-Made Electric Cars

August 16, 2022 by www.breitbart.com

CLAIM: President Joe Biden claimed the “Inflation Reduction Act,” signed into law on Tuesday, gives tax credits to American consumers for electric vehicles “if those vehicles were made in America.” VERDICT: False. The Inflation Reduction Act does provide tax credits for electric vehicles made in America — but also for those made in Mexico and Canada as well. As Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, he gave remarks on the legislation that is set to spend nearly $740 billion, mostly on green energy projects. In those remarks, Biden suggested that the provision for electric vehicle tax credits is only for vehicles made in the United States. “[The Inflation Reduction Act] … gives consumers a tax credit to buy electric vehicles … new or used, and it gives them a tax credit of up to $7,500 if those vehicles were made in America,” Biden said. “American auto companies, along with American labor, are committing their treasure and their talent, billions of dollars to make electric … [Read more...] about Fact Check: Joe Biden Falsely Claims ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ Does Not Subsidize Foreign-Made Electric Cars

China’s “vaccine diplomacy” begins as shots to be rolled out in Turkey, Latin America

December 4, 2020 by www.newsweek.com

A Chinese coronavirus vaccine is set to be rolled out in Turkey later this month, with some Latin American country also in line to receive COVID-19 shots developed in the East Asian nation over the coming months. On Wednesday, Turkish health minister Fahrettin Koca said his country had ordered 50 million doses of the CoronaVac vaccine produced by China's Sinovac Biotech pharmaceutical company, with the first shipment set to arrive on December 11, according to a statement. Turkish labs will assess the safety of the vaccine and initial results from Phase III clinical trials, with an emergency use authorization possible soon, he said. "If developments continue positively as we expect, Turkey would be among the first countries in the world to begin vaccinations in the early phase," Koca said. The vaccine is one of five COVID-19 shots being developed in China that are currently undergoing large-scale, Phase III clinical trials, which are typically required before regulatory … [Read more...] about China’s “vaccine diplomacy” begins as shots to be rolled out in Turkey, Latin America
