A real-life Willy Wonka who ran the "best sweet shop in the world" is selling his entire collection of 1940s-style goodies. Englishman Dave Walker, 50, spent a lifetime scouring flea markets and antique fairs before opening the Edward & Vintage candy store. The candy store attracted thousands of visitors after it opened in the picturesque Derbyshire village of Tissington in central England, in the U.K., in 2012 and was quickly dubbed the "best sweet shop in the world." Man uses personal dinosaur fossil collection to start Museum in home town
A 23-year-old prehistoric expert with a passion for collecting fossils has created his own natural history museum stuffed with dinosaurs in his home city. Englishman James Hogg, who originally attended university in London, spent every day as a student examining the impressive exhibits in the British capital's famed institutions. When he returned home to his native Sheffield, in South Yorkshire, in northern England, he decided to create his own museum with fossils taken from his impressive private collection. One of the star attractions at The Yorkshire Natural History Museum, which opened on August 13, is a fossil of an Ichthyosaur, thought to be 175 million-years-old. Academically minded Hogg said he was happy to be righting an injustice by introducing a new natural history museum to the north of England. He said: "It's mind-blowing that we don't already have a natural history museum up here. It's one of the injustices I want to balance. There is nothing wrong with the … [Read more...] about Man uses personal dinosaur fossil collection to start Museum in home town
Prince Charles skipped Ground Zero visit after 9/11 to go shooting—Book
Prince Charles skipped a visit to Ground Zero after 9/11 because going "shooting at Balmoral had taken precedence," according to the memoir of a former U.K. ambassador to Washington. The future king could have joined grieving Americans in New York City a month after Al-Qaeda 's attack brought down the World Trade Center in 2001. However, Sir Christopher Meyer, Britain's ambassador to the U.S. from 1997 to 2003, described how the Prince of Wales left brother Prince Andrew to conduct the visit while he went shooting instead. The account in 2005 book DC Confidential comes after The Sunday Times reported Charles accepted a £1 million ($1.2 million) donation to one of his charities from the bin Laden family. Clarence House said the donation had been accepted by trustees of The Prince of Wales' Charitable Fund. Prince Charles Misses 9/11 Visit Meyer wrote: "The Prince [Andrew] had come to New York to discharge duties that had been intended for his elder brother, the heir to … [Read more...] about Prince Charles skipped Ground Zero visit after 9/11 to go shooting—Book
