The Supreme Court said Thursday that Americans have a right to carry guns in public, a major expansion of gun rights. The justices’ 6-3 decision follows a series of recent mass shootings and is expected to ultimately allow more people to legally carry guns on the streets of the nation’s largest cities — including New York, Los Angeles and Boston — and elsewhere. About a quarter of the U.S. population lives in states expected to be affected by the ruling, the high court’s first major gun decision in more than a decade. The ruling comes as Congress is actively working on gun legislation following recent mass shootings in Texas, New York and California. United States President Joe Biden on Saturday signed into law the first significant federal bill on gun safety in decades, saying while it falls short of what’s really needed it will “save lives”. “While this bill doesn’t do everything I want, it does include actions I’ve long called for that are going to save lives,” he said at the White House before leaving for two major diplomatic summits in Europe. The gun legislation includes enhanced background checks for younger buyers and federal cash for states introducing “red flag” laws that allow courts to temporarily remove weapons from those considered a threat. Billions of dollars have been allocated to crack down on “straw purchasers” who buy firearms for people not allowed to own them, and to curb gun trafficking. South Korean agency HYBE has clarified that BTS members are not going on a hiatus but will be focusing on their solo work. The statement was issued after BTS members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook said that they were going into a hiatus. They made the announcement during the FESTA 2022 Live Dinner. While the group spoke in Korean, the word hiatus was included in the subtitles of the video. As expected, fans were emotional following the announcement but the agency jumped in to clarify BTS’ statement. The agency clarified that BTS is not going on a hiatus.
