While many of us are looking to be more sustainable when it comes to our wardrobe, it can be easy to fall into the "fast fashion" trap of buying cheap clothes only for them to fall apart in a matter of months. One way of avoiding this is buying second hand or investing in pieces from truly eco-friendly brands, which can often be considerably more expensive than high-street pieces. So, how can consumers who are hesitant about investing in pieces ensure their clothing stands the test of time? Anita Lo, 28, from Cheshire, England, is the founder of Clara's Box—an online vintage store specializing in clothing from the 1800s to the 1990s and antique objects. Comparing Apple’s new 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter
It wasn't too many years ago you needed a backpack to carry a laptop charger. They were huge, got hot and came with thick, permanently attached, messy cords. That's no longer the case, thanks in large part to manufacturers standardizing charging around USB-C. Now a 65 watt or even 100 watt charger might fit in the pocket of your jeans. The cables are interchangeable, too. Apple 's latest charger is more compact than its previous ones and even packs in two USB-C ports. It can even be used to charge your laptop and your phone, tablet or whatever. This is a look at that new charger and how it compares to others. The 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter takes on a new form factor. If you're curious about its size and shape, I have shared several comparison pictures to help put it in perspective for real-life situations. There's also the consideration of whether you want Apple's first-party charger or a third-party one that might offer more power in a different form. I compared … [Read more...] about Comparing Apple’s new 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter

Iran says it’s ready for new talks with US on nuclear deal
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Iran said Thursday it is ready for new indirect talks with the United States to overcome the last hurdles to revive its tattered 2015 nuclear deal with major powers amid a growing crisis over the country's atomic program. Iran’s U.N. Ambassador Majid Takht Ravanchi told the U.N. Security Council that the Iranian “negotiating team is ready to engage constructively again to conclude and reach agreement.” “The ball is in U.S.’ court, and if the U.S. acts realistically and shows its serious intention to implement its obligations, the agreement is not out of reach,” he added. Ravanchi’s remarks came a day after indirect negotiations between Iran and the U.S. ended in Qatar after failing to make significant progress. Yet Ravanchi described the Qatar talks as “serious and positive.” He said Iran will contact the European Union coordinators “for the next stage of talks.” During intensive consultations with EU's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell in Tehran last … [Read more...] about Iran says it’s ready for new talks with US on nuclear deal
Kyrsten Sinema kills filibuster plan after pledge to work on abortion
Democrats seeking to preserve abortion rights following last week's Supreme Court overturn of Roe v. Wade may face an even more uphill battle as Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema has reportedly nixed the idea of reforming the filibuster. President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he supported the idea of changing the Senate filibuster for the purpose of codifying Roe v. Wade . The partisan split in the Senate makes a 60-vote threshold practically impossible for Democrats to do so. "I believe we have to codify Roe v. Wade into law. And the way to do that is to make sure Congress votes to do that," Biden said during a press conference at the NATO summit in Madrid. "And if the filibuster gets in the way, it's like voting rights, it should be—we provide an exception for this, should require an exception to the filibuster for this action, to deal with the Supreme Court decision." CNN's Ana Cabrera tweeted on Thursday that Sinema's office said the senator "is still … [Read more...] about Kyrsten Sinema kills filibuster plan after pledge to work on abortion

Fever, body aches, loss of smell: New COVID study charts evolution of symptoms
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 A yearlong study of more than 60,000 people tested for the coronavirus in San Francisco found intriguing shifts in COVID-19 symptoms over three different surges — including fewer reports of loss of smell, once considered a trademark of the illness — probably because of changes in the virus itself as well as individuals’ immunity. More people with COVID reported symptoms of upper respiratory infection — including cough, sore throat and congestion — during the omicron surge than earlier waves, researchers found. Patients also experienced fewer instances of systemic issues such as fever and body aches. Loss of smell was reported by 20% of those who tested positive during the delta surge, but only 5% during omicron. The same study, which has not yet been peer-reviewed, also found that most people infected during the omicron surge tested positive for at least five days, and in … [Read more...] about Fever, body aches, loss of smell: New COVID study charts evolution of symptoms

Obama Responds to Drone Crashing at White House
Updated | After a two-foot drone went undetected by White House radars and crashed into a tree on the South Lawn at 3 a.m. on Monday morning, President Obama, in his first public comments since the incident, admitted that the United States has failed to keep pace with the technology. The pilot of the drone works for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and had been drinking at an apartment nearby the White House, according to a New York Times report . When he lost control of the drone during a recreational flight, he hoped it had not hit the White House premises, but the next morning friends alerted him that his drone was all over the news. He first called his employer, and then notified authorities. Following an investigation, the Secret Service identified the operator as a non-White House government employee. It is unclear from reports why the unidentified man was flying the device at that hour, but he claims he lost control during a recreational flight and did … [Read more...] about Obama Responds to Drone Crashing at White House
