Stanley Park High in Carshalton, south London, is introducing a registration scheme which would enable the public to report irresponsible cycling by pupils. Youngsters will soon be issued with number plates which “must be displayed when riding to and from school”. Head teacher Amit Amin said the measure is in response to incidents of children cycling in a way that “endangers themselves and others”. A pro-Brexit number plate is one of hundreds that have been vetoed by the DVLA, as new ‘68’ registrations cause headaches for authorities. More than 400 letter and number combinations have fallen foul of the DVLA’s guidelines which ban registrations it feels “may cause offence, embarrassment or are in poor taste." The number plate: ‘EU68 BAD’ will not be seen on the streets of Britain, or indeed continental Europe, after it was decided not to be made available for circulation. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is holding back combinations it feels “may cause offence, embarrassment or are in poor taste”. Motorists often get creative with personalised plates to spell out words. The “68” registrations which became available on September 1 caused a number of issues for the DVLA, as the 6 can represent B, G, C or S, while the 8 can also represent B. Responding to a Freedom of Information request submitted by the Press Association, the DVLA revealed the 436 banned plates include **68 OMB, *A68 USE, BA68 TAD and OR68 ASM. The city will become the first in the world to test the system, which is called Tag2Connect and has been developed by the its Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The system, which is to be trialled at the end of this year, will see vehicles fitted with smart plates with digital screens that are equipped with GPS, transmitters and a microprocessor instead of the traditional metal plates. The technology was demonstrated at the Future Cities Show in Dubai earlier this week. Sultan Abdullah Al Marzouqi, director of the vehicle licensing department at the RTA, said the new plates would also enable messages to be displayed – for example flashing if someone tries to steal the plate.
