Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif 's 34-member Cabinet was sworn in on Tuesday after several days of delay, with Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani administering the oath to new ministers as President Arif Alvi did not attend the ceremony. The ceremony was scheduled to be held on Monday, but President Alvi had refused to administer the oath to the lawmakers, compelling the government to postpone it. Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP's) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari was not among the ministers. Earlier, there was speculation that he would be the country's next foreign minister. Initially, 31 federal ministers and three ministers of state took the oath to join Prime Minister Sharif. Last week, Mr Sanjrani administered the oath of office to Prime Minister Sharif after President Alvi, a member of ousted premier Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, went on 'sick' leave ahead of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader's inauguration. New permanent nucleus created for Rajasthan’s folk artistes
Having emerged as a permanent and well-constructed nucleus for the famed folk artistes of western Rajasthan, a new centre situated deep in the Thar desert is helping the Langa-Manganiyar and other singers in honing the skills of their youngsters. The centre has also provided a permanent platform to the artistes from about 50 villages in Barmer and Jaisalmer districts. The new campus of Dharohar Lok Kala and Gramin Vikas Sansthan, situated over two-bigha land in Sheo village, 55 km from Barmer, will function as sanctum sanctorum of the vocal and instrumental ensemble of Langas and Manganiyars and help save their rapidly disappearing narrative traditions. The initiative has been taken by two brothers belonging to the Manganiyar community. While three business houses extended financial support to Bhutte Khan and Bhungar Khan for constructing rooms, toilets, training hall and a vast open air performing dais at the centre, a two-day festival titled “Singing Sands” was organised there … [Read more...] about New permanent nucleus created for Rajasthan’s folk artistes
New Treatment Involving Use Of Magnetic Pulses Effective Against Depression: Study
When simple approaches such as medication don’t work as a treatment for depression, other approaches are applied. One such approach or treatment is repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation or rTMS. It is estimated that among at least 40% of people suffering from depression, antidepressant medication does not prove to be effective. And for such cases, a new approach called repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation or rTMS can help, a new study has said. As part of the treatment, a device containing an electromagnetic coil is placed on the patient’s scalp during an rTMS session. The device delivers a magnetic pulse without causing any pain and stimulates nerve cells in areas of the brain which are responsible for mood changes. This area is called the Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex. The findings of this study have been published in the American Journal of Psychiatry. While the process has been proven effective, we still don’t know how rTMS affects the brain and its … [Read more...] about New Treatment Involving Use Of Magnetic Pulses Effective Against Depression: Study
Justice Minister tries setting up new probe teams
Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon attends a regulatory reform meeting at the Government Complex in Jongno District, central Seoul on Tuesday. [YONHAP] The Justice Ministry appears to be trying to create a joint investigative division involving regional prosecutors' offices under the direction of new Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon, according to officials Monday. The idea of starting specialized investigative teams at 11 regional prosecutors’ offices, each dedicated to probing a particular category of crime in cooperation with the relevant government agency, comes as the state prosecution service is set to lose its ability to initiate probes into most crimes except for corruption and violations of the Economic Crimes Act in September. According to a prosecution service official who spoke on condition of anonymity to the JoongAng Ilbo on Monday, each of the 11 designated regional prosecutors’ office are expected to report how many prosecutors and investigators they can allocate for … [Read more...] about Justice Minister tries setting up new probe teams
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ stars hope the film’s Black pilots will inspire a new generation of fans
Actor Jay Ellis remembers watching the 1986 movie “Top Gun” at an Air Force base in Austin, Texas. He was only 8 or 9 years old, and the blockbuster made him dream about becoming a fighter pilot. Ellis wanted to be part of that military community. Now, he plays Navy fighter pilot Payback in the anticipated sequel “Top Gun: Maverick,” which releases nationwide Friday and in select theaters starting Tuesday. He said he sees the film as a way to say thank you to the real men and women who inspired him as a boy. “I grew up around aviation, and I think about the sacrifice that so many men and women take — they give, rather — just for us to be safe,” he said. “I think we all wrap our arms around this community and we protect it so much. And we understand the responsibility to be amazing on-screen for these folks.” Jay Ellis gets real about pulling midair stunts in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ May 23, 2022 06:09 Both of Ellis' grandfathers, his … [Read more...] about ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ stars hope the film’s Black pilots will inspire a new generation of fans
Moscow launches a new phase of the conflict
This live blog is now closed. For the latest updates please check here . Russia has opened a long-anticipated new phase of the war in Ukraine , launching its eastern offensive in a bid to seize the country's industrial heartland. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed the move Tuesday , saying the Kremlin's goal was to achieve the “full liberation of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics,” which together make up the Donbas region. The full-scale assault on Ukraine's east came as the last fighters in Mariupol, the besieged port city that is crucial to Moscow's goals, continued to hold out despite a new Russian deadline to surrender. It also followed Russian strikes across the country, hitting supply lines and military infrastructure and killing at least seven people in the western city of Lviv . The United States is expected to announce another package of military aid, which is expected to be similar in size to the $800 million one the administration … [Read more...] about Moscow launches a new phase of the conflict

Grand Junction brewery rebrands amid trademark dispute, plans new restaurant opening to celebrate
Monumental Beer Works opened its doors in Grand Junction on March 19, 2020, but when the brewery expands with a second taproom and restaurant later this year, it will do so under a different name. The brewery is currently undergoing a rebrand after being contacted about a trademark dispute on the word “monumental,” said Brian Fischer, co-founder and operations manager. The company, originally named for its proximity to the Colorado National Monument , will soon make its grand re-debut as Base Camp Beer Works. Exactly how soon? It’s tough to tell, Fischer said. About two months ago, the brewery was informed it would need a new name. That’s when, after getting some legal advice, Fischer and his team decided to solicit branding ideas from fans . They received 500 suggestions, among them Base Camp Beer Works, which resonated with the brewery’s team. “Finding names that aren’t taken is an extremely difficult task,” said Fischer. “We had a small group of angel investors when we … [Read more...] about Grand Junction brewery rebrands amid trademark dispute, plans new restaurant opening to celebrate
Kellyanne ‘Glorifies Trump’ but Skewers Jared and Her Hubby
Kellyanne Conway’s new book makes it very clear the people she has a grudge against, and the ones she doesn’t, according to Daily Beast media reporter Zach Petrizzo, who obtained a copy of the former Trump aide’s forthcoming book. He tells New Abnormal podcast host Molly Jong-Fast that there are two people Conway goes after the most—and the Donald isn’t one of them. “She kind of hangs Jared Kushner out to dry,” says Petrizzo, who recently reported that Conway also says in her book that Trump asked her if he should drop out of the 2016 presidential race after the infamous Access Hollywood “pussy” tape. Both Petrizzo and Molly agree it’s a risky move for Conway to go after Jared.
