New Zealand police have begun a homicide investigation after human remains were allegedly found stashed in suitcases that were bought at an auction in the country’s largest city Auckland. An undisclosed number of remains are believed to have been stored in suitcases auctioned as part of storage unit sale, and brought home by an unsuspecting family after their winning bid. Residents at a home in South Auckland called police last Thursday after making the grisly discovery, police official Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua confirmed. Police do not believe the family were involved in the suspected homicide. “The priority for police is to confirm the identification of the deceased so that we can establish the full circumstances behind the discovery,” Vaaelua added. A post-mortem examination was underway and forensic investigators were trying to determine the number of victims, police said. The auctioning of abandoned contents is a common practice for storage units with unpaid bills. … [Read more...] about Human Remains ‘Found in Suitcases’ Sold at New Zealand Auction

BJP alleges social imbalance, criminalisation in New Bihar Cabinet
The BJP on August 16 alleged that the new Cabinet in Bihar reflected "social imbalance" and patronage to those with criminal antecedents in the ‘ Mahagathbandhan ’, which formed government after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) severed ties with the saffron party. The two social groups together have 13 Cabinet berths, including those from the Chief Minister's JD(U) and the Congress. The former Deputy CM also referred to serious criminal cases against new inductees such as Lalit Yadav, Surendra Yadav, Ramanand Yadav, and Kartikeya Singh. New California data shows which kids get the most qualified teachers — and which don’t
Parents and policymakers will now know which public school students across California have the most prepared and experienced teachers and, perhaps more importantly, which do not. The numbers could push state and local policymakers to ramp up recruitment and retention efforts to ensure qualified teachers enter the profession and stay, while also providing incentives for fully credentialed teachers to take jobs in some of the harder-to-staff schools. “There is no question that well-qualified teachers are among the most … [Read more...] about New California data shows which kids get the most qualified teachers — and which don’t
