Intense rain and heavy flooding caused at least 12 Russian workers to fall into a sewer where they were swept away on Sunday, reports said. According to several reports, workers in Moscow were cleaning the sewers, when water levels began to rise as heavy rain fell. At least 12 of the workers were swept away in the sewer. Russian reports state that five of the workers managed to climb out of the sewer on their own, and four were rescued by emergency personnel and received medical attention. A video of one of the rescues was posted on Telegram by Mash, a Russian news outlet. The bodies of the three missing workers were found later on Sunday. Flag-waving Trump supporters protest outside Mar-a-Lago after FBI raid
Dozens of furious Donald Trump supporters gathered around Mar-a-Lago on Monday to protest the FBI raid on the former president's Florida home. The demonstrators gathered in two groups, right outside Mar-a-Lago and by a bridge leading into Palm Beach, where the luxury resort is located. Other Trump supporters drove around the area in vehicles decked out with patriotic regalia. A video , posted from the scene by Jayne Zirkle, a reporter for Steve Bannon 's War Room , shows one truck with a large Trump/Pence banner attached, but with "Pence" crossed out, reflecting Trump supporters' anger the former vice president didn't refuse to certify the 2020 election result. Pro-Trump protesters waved flags emblazed with slogans such as "Florida For Trump," "Trump 2024" and "Biden Is Not My President." Another demonstrator held up a large placard with the slogan, "Fake News is CNN ." The gathering was peaceful, though police did have to intervene after a counter-protester … [Read more...] about Flag-waving Trump supporters protest outside Mar-a-Lago after FBI raid
Macrovariable projections in uncertain times
The Fed has raised its benchmark interest rate again by a whopping 0.75%. The Reserve Bank of India has also been forced to raise interest rates further but also take other steps. These decisions in the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting are based on what the members of the MPC see as the likely course of the economy in the months ahead. But, the trajectory of the world economy, and its likely impact on the Indian economy, is imponderable. So, Indian policymakers would face two crucial problems. First, the main uncertainty is due to Russia’s war on Ukraine and the resultant economic sanctions on Russia, as well as the zero-COVID-19 policy in China that repeatedly implements lockdowns leading to global supply bottlenecks. Second, policy has to base itself on data. If it is deficient, it introduces additional uncertainty, making projections for the future difficult and causing policies to fail. This will compound the problem that results from the global uncertainty. … [Read more...] about Macrovariable projections in uncertain times

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Christian nationalism criticized by faith leader
A progressive Christian campaigner has savaged Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene 's call for conservatives to embrace being called "Christian nationalists". Writing for The Daily Beast the Rev. Nathan Empsall branded Christian nationalism "unchristian and unpatriotic," adding the movement's leaders are "America's false prophets" that "Jesus warned us about." Empsall's website says that his ministry is focused on "social, environmental, economic, and racial justice." It comes after Greene said in July that the Christian nationalist label is "actually a good thing ," during an appearance before the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit in Tampa, Florida. The Georgia politician doubled down on her argument in a subsequent radio interview, when she said: "We need to be the party of nationalism. I'm a Christian, and I say it proudly—we should be Christian nationalists." Empsall is Executive Director of Faithful America, a group founded in 2004, which says it is … [Read more...] about Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Christian nationalism criticized by faith leader
QAnon followers react with glee after FBI Mar-a-Lago raid: “Trust The Plan”
Followers of the debunked QAnon conspiracy theory have reacted with glee and optimism following the FBI raid at Donald Trump 's Mar-a-Lago home, as they believe it is part of "the plan," which will somehow end in the former President's favor. The FBI raid on the Florida resort sent shockwaves through the American right when the agency executed a search warrant, amid allegations Trump has unlawfully kept White House records. Trump himself branded the raid as a "witch hunt" and Republican politicians, such as Texas Senator Ted Cruz , described it as "corrupt and an abuse of power." The FBI ordered the raid after Trump allegedly took 15 boxes of presidential records meant for the National Archives to Mar-a-Lago, according to The Washington Post . But QAnon influencers, known for their fanatical support of Trump, had a more optimistic outlook on the raid and reassured their followers to trust FBI director Christopher Wray and "the plan." Their apparent trust in the … [Read more...] about QAnon followers react with glee after FBI Mar-a-Lago raid: “Trust The Plan”
Kelis calls Beyoncé’s fans “a joke” as they swarm her IG after song spat
Kelis called Beyoncé's fans "a joke" on Wednesday, as she clapped back at them for mobbing one of her Instagram posts following a spat over a track being sampled. Beyoncé recently removed a sample of Kelis' 2003 hit "Milkshake" from her new album, Renaissance , after Kelis branded its use "theft," alleging that she had not been asked for permission to use it. Kelis also called Beyoncé's alleged actions "stupid and disrespectful." The original version of "Energy" featured an interpolation from "Milkshake," in which Beyoncé, 40, sang a variation of the iconic "la-la, la-la, la" from Kelis' hit. In light of the fallout, this has since been removed without comment from Beyoncé. However, it would appear that a faction of Beyoncé's devoted army of fans—collectively called the Beyhive—are not happy, as they swarmed Kelis' most recent Instagram post. Kelis, who turns 43 on August 21, took to the image-sharing platform to post a series of photos of herself donning an … [Read more...] about Kelis calls Beyoncé’s fans “a joke” as they swarm her IG after song spat
Grandad who ‘built’ PC for teen slammed over wanting $600 from his parents
A parent who feels like he's been "conned" after agreeing to have his dad build a computer for his teenage son has received a wave of support on Mumsnet, the U.K.-based online forum. According to a post on Mumsnet's Am I Being Unreasonable (AIBU) forum , user Glassback83 was planning to buy his 16-year-old son a PC for his birthday. But the user's father (who has been building computers "for years") said he could build one for "cheaper" than it would be to buy one from a store. So they agreed to have him do it and have the PC be a gift from the user and the child's grandparents. While global PC sales rose during the height of the pandemic , with more people working from home, the latest Mumsnet post follows a record drop in PC shipments worldwide, which saw its sharpest decline in nine years in the second quarter of 2022, according to a July 2022 report by the research firm Gartner. The decline was attributed to ongoing "geopolitical instability" following the … [Read more...] about Grandad who ‘built’ PC for teen slammed over wanting $600 from his parents
Parent excluding uninvited ‘extra’ kids from son’s birthday party praised
A parent planning an " expensive birthday activity " for their son who wants to avoid having any "uninvited 'extra' kids" at the event has received a wave of support from users on Mumsnet, the U.K.-based online forum. In a post shared on Mumsnet's Am I Being Unreasonable (AIBU) subforum, user samsmummyhere said the upcoming birthday event costs nearly £30 ($36) per child for the activity and food afterwards. The son was told he can invite 10 friends, as "I seriously couldn't afford any more," the user said. However, according to the user, many moms from the son's circle of friends have brought along "ALL their kids, even when not invited ," to parties in the past, as if "free childcare" was being offered. The original poster said: "I'm adamant I don't want this happening at my son's party...why should I end up paying several more £30 for the sake of [moms] who do this? "How do I word it politely but FIRMLY on the invitations that the invites are for the NAMED FRIEND … [Read more...] about Parent excluding uninvited ‘extra’ kids from son’s birthday party praised
AAP govt. looking for scapegoat for own wrongdoing: BJP
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in its latest showdown with the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government over the now-scrapped excise policy, accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia of having perpetrated a scam worth crores through it. The party said Mr. Sisodia’s allegations of corruption in the policy being the handiwork of former Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal were an attempt to look for a scapegoat as a CBI investigation into the “scam” was more than likely to put the Deputy Chief Minister in the dock. “Now that the heat of investigation has reached them, they are busy looking for the scapegoat. Sisodia is accusing the L-G of last-minute changes in the policy and AAP leaders are seeing flaws in it after 10 months of its implementation in November last year,” BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said. ‘Favours to liquor mafia’ “Kejriwal and Sisodia will have to answer why they waived off ₹144 crore to the liquor mafia. They extorted money … [Read more...] about AAP govt. looking for scapegoat for own wrongdoing: BJP
