Coheed and Cambria on new album, cruise life, evolving sound
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 14 NEW YORK (AP) — It’s a rock musical space odyssey. Star Wars goes to Warped Tour, all grown up. And it’ll make you want to dance. Coheed and Cambria's “Vaxis II” is a sprawling 13-track prog-rock symphony, out Friday. The latest in a long line of concept albums, set to the backdrop of the comic book series “The Amory Wars,” that the band has been building on for more than two decades. This new entry features trademark Coheed mainstays – organic riffs, screaming solos and frenetic fills. All wrapped in a decidedly new sound – and new era – for the band. “A Disappearing Act” feels as at home in a dance club as it does on the track list, and the trippy, gripping “Love Murder One” will get stuck in your head. “Ladders of Supremacy” is pure, classic Coheed, all leading up to “Window of the Waking Mind,” an epic … [Read more...] about Coheed and Cambria on new album, cruise life, evolving sound
Comedian Rahul Subramanian Offers Really Unhelpful Solutions to Genuine Life Problems
Comedian Rahul Subramanian has been giving out super unhelpful life advice on Instagram because that’s just what you sometimes: a reminder that you win some, you lose some. In all fairness, he shared full disclosure before people sent him their queries. “Share genuine [life] problems and I will give you unhelpful solutions.” This is the eighth time he’s doing such an exercise on Instagram, and it seems people keep coming back for more. This time, as usual, a slew of problems came in, because obviously no one’s ever lacking in that department. Someone said they were bored in life and had no interests; “what should I do?” Subramanian unhelpfully offered, “MBA”. When someone said they couldn’t decide on an airport outfit, he advised them to take the train. Another person said they wanted to buy a MacBook Air but didn’t have the money for it; Subramaniam told them to “start with air for now”. The last one was exceptionally unhelpful and potentially wounding. Someone told Subramanian … [Read more...] about Comedian Rahul Subramanian Offers Really Unhelpful Solutions to Genuine Life Problems
Kashmiris go Online for life partners
Srinagar: Kashmiris have increasingly started turning to the world-wide web to find matches for their sons and daughters as traditional ways of arranging marriages have become a time-consuming and expensive affair. Many Kashmiri men and women have registered themselves on matrimonial sites on the Internet after facing problems in finding a decent match using the good old traditional way of engaging a marriage broker. "The best thing about matrimonial sites is that you have a wide range to choose from and the process is almost anonymous as nobody in your neighbourhood or relations knows about it," says a candid 27-year-old dentist Sanaa who has registered herself on one of the country's leading matchmaking sites. Another reason for choosing the Internet, she says, is that the sites charge nominal fees when compared to marriage brokers in Kashmir, who have become a "huge liability" considering the expenses associated with marriages. Sanaa's views are echoed by Neyaz Ahmad, a … [Read more...] about Kashmiris go Online for life partners

Now it’s getting personal – and it’s just the business
O ne of the trustiest - and most disingenuous - lines in politics is the old saw which says it's not personalities which count, but policies. Trustiest because ever since Tony Benn first coined it, any candidate confronted with a question about his ambitions or private life has been able to deploy it as a protective shield. Disingenuous because few politicians have made a stronger mark through sheer force of personality than the redoubtable Mr Benn. That same contradiction lives on, now given new life by Labour's other TB. In Sunday night's election broadcast, an earnest Tony Blair was seen dismissing "all the personality nonsense" - as part of a five-minute film entirely about him! In other words, he was denouncing an offence he was committing at that very moment. Hypocrisy? Perhaps. Or maybe Mr Blair is just the latest victim of British politics' ambivalence towards the cult of personality. Predictably, the PM has come under fire for the Millbank biopic. It's … [Read more...] about Now it’s getting personal – and it’s just the business

This is why I’m glad I was finally diagnosed with borderline personality disorder
People always tell you to trust your gut. They always say that if you get a feeling about something, you’re usually right. Well, I always had a gut feeling that I was different. I used to get hysterical about not fitting in and not having an identity. My stepdad used to say “you’re just a square peg in a round hole. You’ll find your fit somewhere.” But I never believed it. Since I was little, I’ve felt overwhelmed. Overwhelmed by life, overwhelmed by my emotions, and I didn’t know how to handle it. At school, “friends” whispered behind my back and mocked my appearance. I was always paranoid that people were talking about me even when they weren’t. I hated everyone but I hated myself more. I’d come home, go to my room, turn on some angry rock music and cry hysterically into my pillow. I wouldn’t sleep for days, getting creative at 3am, writing self-loathing comments in a diary about what it would be like to die. This was how I learned to cope. Closed door, shouty music … [Read more...] about This is why I’m glad I was finally diagnosed with borderline personality disorder
