As Liverpool travel to Paris aiming to gain revenge for their 2018 Champions League final defeat, there are probably a few things you remember very vividly from their meeting with Real Madrid in Kyiv. Gareth Bale's spectacular overhead kick is the sort of thing you don't forget in a hurry, and neither is the torrid evening endured by Loris Karius and the concussion reports which followed . Similarly, Mohamed Salah's first-half injury - which threatened his involvement at that summer's World Cup - will still hurt mentally even if the physical wounds have healed. Other moments, however, may have been forgotten. On the fourth anniversary of the 2018 final , Mirror Football looks back at some incidents from the game which quickly disappeared from memory. 1. Dua Lipa becomes a Liverpool favourite The pre-match entertainment was provided by Dua Lipa, who took to the stage for the opening ceremony. The London-born singer was also reportedly invited to Real Madrid's … [Read more...] about 5 things you forgot about Real Madrid vs Liverpool 2018 Champions League final

Tennis-Kyrgios turns down million dollar Tomic challenge
SYDNEY (Reuters) - Nick Kyrgios has turned down a million dollar challenge from Bernard Tomic to sort out their differences on court as the Australian tennis players continue their spat on Friday. Kyrgios described Tomic as the most hated athlete in Australia when the pair exchanged barbs over who was the better player on Instagram on Wednesday night. Tomic, who won their only professional meeting at Kooyong in 2019, returned serve by offering to put up a million dollars for a one-on-one contest. "At the end of the day, talk is cheap," Tomic told the Sydney Morning Herald. "I'm ready to make it 2-0 whenever you want. Put your money where your mouth is. "Let the public decide who is better. I'll beat you anywhere, any place. If not, shut your mouth and go back to playing doubles. "I'll dominate you one-on-one," he added. "To not make excuses, I'll even play you on grass, whenever you want. "You know what? Let's sort this out in the boxing ring. Put your gloves on, I'll … [Read more...] about Tennis-Kyrgios turns down million dollar Tomic challenge
What Donald Trump has said about gun control as he heads to NRA convention
Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak at the National Rifle Association ( NRA ) annual meeting in Houston, which is taking place just days after a mass shooting at a school in Uvalde, Texas. Trump confirmed he would be appearing at the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) Leadership Forum despite the fact that the event was occurring just days after 19 children and two teachers were shot dead at Uvalde's Robb Elementary School. Trump, who got an early endorsement from the NRA before he was nominated as the Republican presidential candidate in 2016, gave mixed signals over his views on gun reform in the U.S. while in the White House During Trump's time as president, the U.S. saw a number of high-profile mass shootings, including a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida , attacks in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, and in Las Vegas, where a gunman killed 60 people after opening fire at a country music festival, … [Read more...] about What Donald Trump has said about gun control as he heads to NRA convention
Company insiders rip Tesla’s stance on safety in Elon Musk doc
LOS ANGELES: If you own a Tesla, or a loved one does, or you’re thinking about buying one, or you share public roads with Tesla cars, you might want to watch the new documentary Elon Musk’s Crash Course . The 75-minute fright show, which premiered Friday on FX and Hulu, spotlights the persistent dangers of Tesla’s automated driving technologies, the company’s lax safety culture, Musk’s P.T. Barnum-style marketing hype and the weak-kneed safety regulators who seem not to care. Solidly reported and dead-accurate (this reporter has covered the company since 2016 and can attest to its veracity), the project, part of the ongoing New York Times Presents series, may well become a historic artifact of the what-the-hell-were-they-thinking variety. The central through line is the story of Joshua Brown, a rabid Tesla fan and derring-do techno-geek beheaded when his Autopilot-engaged Tesla drove itself at full speed on a Florida highway underneath the trailer of a semitruck in 2016. … [Read more...] about Company insiders rip Tesla’s stance on safety in Elon Musk doc
CoA’s guidelines to come into effect from October 1
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) running the affairs of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has released a new document on the TTFI website that covers a wide gamut of issues including the ‘Conflict of Interest’ and inconsistencies in selection of players for major international tournaments. Among them is the new selection/ranking criteria for domestic and international tournaments that will come into force on October 1, 2022 “or immediately after the first ranking tournament, whichever is earlier.” Explaining its strong stand on several issues, the CoA said: “the existing selection criteria and process are manifestly inadequate in implementing the vision and administrative goals of TTFI or in ensuring that the Indian table tennis players have the assurance of a transparent and consistent selection framework.” The CoA had released a new criteria proposal on April 6 seeking suggestions from all stakeholders — players, parents, coaches and State associations. After … [Read more...] about CoA’s guidelines to come into effect from October 1
Marysville-Pilchuck Gunman’s Father Sentenced to Prison
Updated | The father of Jaylen Fryberg, who killed four friends and himself at Marysville-Pilchuck High School in Washington state in October 2014, was sentenced Monday to 24 months in federal prison and three years of probation, according to local news outlets. A jury in federal court had found Ray Fryberg Jr. guilty on six counts of illegally owning guns, including the one Jaylen used in the school shooting. The sentence is less than the 33 months in prison and three years of supervised release that federal prosecutors had recommended. Each count carried a maximum sentence of fines and 10 years in prison. Families of Jaylen's victims attended the sentencing and prosecutors read statements some of them had written. Lincoln Beauregard, a lawyer for the victims' families, tells Newsweek , "They appreciate the work of the Department of Justice, they appreciate the process. Some of them said that yeah, more time would have been good, but the bigger concern was that Raymond Fryberg … [Read more...] about Marysville-Pilchuck Gunman’s Father Sentenced to Prison
Johnny Depp trial is driving a new online economy. This ex-LA prosecutor is all in
LOS ANGELES: Emily D. Baker is exasperated. In the penultimate week of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's defamation trial, Baker at times rises from her seat in her home studio or fans herself with a small blue book of the federal rules of evidence as she delivers a steaming critique of Heard's attorney Elaine Bredehoft. "This is preposterous, Elaine! You don't do speaking objections," Baker, 44, seethes as red lights flash to indicate another thousand subscribers have signed up to her channel. A so-called super-chat message flashes across the screen from a viewer who paid US$10 (RM44) to let the audience know she thinks the judge is being too easy on Bredehoft. "This is a mess, and the jury is going to see it's a mess," Baker adds. It is just another day in the weekslong trial for this former Los Angeles deputy district attorney turned YouTuber whose livestreamed commentary has drawn audiences surpassing that of mainstream outlets like Fox or Entertainment Tonight on the platform. As … [Read more...] about Johnny Depp trial is driving a new online economy. This ex-LA prosecutor is all in
Even WaPo Is Skeptical About Stricter Gun Laws
There is little proof that more restrictive gun laws would “dramatically” decrease instances of violent crime, The Washington Post wrote in a newsletter Thursday. “Certainly, some gun-control policies help reduce violence,” The Post’s Amber Phillips wrote in Thursday’s issue of “The 5-Minute Fix” newsletter, but went on to say that the “evidence is thin” that additional restrictions on guns “would quickly and dramatically reduce rates of gun violence.” “The Washington Post is a news organization and does not ‘push’ for any legislation,” a spokesperson for The Post told The Daily Caller News Foundation. Phillips also wrote that the United States has the most guns per person in the world, adding that gun violence might not go down for years, and that it would be hard to determine why the violence decreased. She also noted there were instances where guns were used to save lives but did not cite examples. Her daughter was shot on live TV. Now she’s marching to demand gun control
Alison Parker had a close relationship with her mom. On Mother's Day in 2015, she took both of her parents wine-tasting and hiking around the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. And every Monday, she met her mom after her morning shift ended at the local news station to share lunch and do some shopping. "Those are the things I miss," Barbara Parker tells Newsweek . The world watched in horror when Alison, a 24-year-old reporter, was fatally shot on live TV on August 26, 2015, along with her colleague Adam Ward, a 27-year-old photojournalist, both with WDBJ7. The two were conducting a live interview at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Virginia, when a gunman approached and killed them. The suspect, later identified as a former employee at their Roanoke news station, fatally shot himself before police could apprehend him. Much of the aftermath of the shooting played out on social media, as the suspect posted video footage and updates to Twitter as he fled. "For lack of better words, … [Read more...] about Her daughter was shot on live TV. Now she’s marching to demand gun control
FOOD CRISIS: Biden Admin Is Letting Farmers Plant On Conserved Lands As ‘Supply Challenges’ Loom
The Biden administration announced Thursday it would allow farmers to harvest conserved lands early in an attempt to boost supplies amid the global food crisis. Farmers with Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) contracts expiring this year will be able to voluntarily request a termination following the 2022 primary nesting season which ends between July-August in most states, according to the Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA). The announcement, designed to mitigate “global food supply challenges,” gives most farmers who choose to opt out a head start of about 4-12 weeks to begin preparing land for harvesting previously-conserved lands since the applicable contracts are set to expire in late September regardless. “Putin’s unjustified invasion of Ukraine has cut off a critical source of wheat, corn, barley, oilseeds, and cooking oil, and we’ve heard from many producers who want to better understand their options to help respond to global food needs,” FSA … [Read more...] about FOOD CRISIS: Biden Admin Is Letting Farmers Plant On Conserved Lands As ‘Supply Challenges’ Loom
