People always tell you to trust your gut. They always say that if you get a feeling about something, you’re usually right. Well, I always had a gut feeling that I was different. I used to get hysterical about not fitting in and not having an identity. My stepdad used to say “you’re just a square peg in a round hole. You’ll find your fit somewhere.” But I never believed it. Since I was little, I’ve felt overwhelmed. Overwhelmed by life, overwhelmed by my emotions, and I didn’t know how to handle it. At school, “friends” whispered behind my back and mocked my appearance. I was always paranoid that people were talking about me even when they weren’t. I hated everyone but I hated myself more. I’d come home, go to my room, turn on some angry rock music and cry hysterically into my pillow. I wouldn’t sleep for days, getting creative at 3am, writing self-loathing comments in a diary about what it would be like to die. This was how I learned to cope. Closed door, shouty music … [Read more...] about This is why I’m glad I was finally diagnosed with borderline personality disorder

Mum ‘raped multiple times in sleep by husband’ baffled as no charges brought against him
A mum claims her former husband raped her multiple times in her sleep but says police have not charged him. The woman, who is not being identified, alleges she was physically, verbally, sexually and emotionally abused during the relationship. The Manchester Evening News has seen a non-molestation order made against her now ex-husband in the Family Court at Manchester and the statement in which she lists the catalogue of abuse. Alison, not her real name, claims she was told by police who investigated her allegations that the Crown Prosecution Service had said there was not enough evidence to charge the alleged perpetrator. However, Greater Manchester Police have told the M.E.N that the evidence they gathered "did not meet the threshold" for referral to the CPS. The CPS has confirmed to the M.E.N. that the case was never referred to them. But now, Alison wants her allegations re-investigated. "He raped me and sexually abuse me multiple times throughout our relationship," … [Read more...] about Mum ‘raped multiple times in sleep by husband’ baffled as no charges brought against him
On World Mental Health Day, read about how bad sleep can make you go crazy
You probably don't need scientific evidence to know that lack of sleep makes a person very cranky. And the fact that regular sleep has such a huge impact on a person's mood is reason enough to make it a priority. The National Alliance on Mental Illness estimates that insomnia influences depression, anxiety and other psychological conditions in at least half of all people who suffer such sleeplessness. Scientists don't fully understand why sleep and mood are so connected. One study published in Current Biology looked at the amygdala, which is part of the deep brain located in the temporal lobe. This region is known to play a role in our ability to regulate emotions. For the study, the researchers showed the participants—who hadn't slept in 35 hours—photos that could be classified as sad. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed the sleep-deprived participants had more responsive amygdalas. But the links to other areas of the brain were weaker, suggesting that the reason people who … [Read more...] about On World Mental Health Day, read about how bad sleep can make you go crazy

‘I am not a murderer,’ Paris attacks defendant maintains
PARIS (AP) — The only surviving suspected member of the Islamic State attack team that terrorized Paris in 2015 pleaded for leniency during his final appearance in court on Monday, acknowledging he had “made mistakes," but declaring: "I'm not a murderer.” Salah Abdeslam is a leading suspect in France's worst peacetime attacks of Nov. 13, 2015, that killed 130 people. He is on trial with 19 other men on suspicion of playing critical roles in the Islamic State's massacres in a Paris music hall, cafes and the national stadium that Friday night. In closing arguments earlier this month, French prosecutors demanded a life sentence without a possibility of parole for Abdeslam. They charged him with multiple counts of murder, complicity to murder, belonging to a terrorist organization and taking part in a conspiracy to commit murder and kidnapping as a member of a terrorist organization. A verdict in the historic trial is expected on Wednesday. Abdeslam apologized to the victims on … [Read more...] about ‘I am not a murderer,’ Paris attacks defendant maintains
Hong Kong burnishes China ties as luster as global hub fades
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 15 HONG KONG (AP) — Every few generations, Hong Kong transforms itself, evolving from a swampy fishing village to 19th century colonial port, to capitalist outpost and factory after China’s 1949 revolution, to 21st century financial center. As the former British colony marks the 25th anniversary of its return to China, reeling from pandemic curbs that devastated business and a crackdown on its pro-democracy movement, Hong Kong leaders say it is time to transform again. They say the city should become a leader in technology that relies more on its ties with nearby Chinese factory cities than on global trade. Chief Executive-elect John Lee’s government is under pressure to generate new sources of economic growth, looking beyond COVID outbreaks and anti-virus controls that have devastated tourism and business and … [Read more...] about Hong Kong burnishes China ties as luster as global hub fades
Revising Marriage Age, Providing Sanitary Napkins: There’s a Lot to be Done for Girl Empowerment
Mausam Kumari is the group leader of a Kishori Samooh (Adolescent Girls’ Group) in Rajauli block of Nawada district in Bihar. She, along with her peers from the community decided to set up a sanitary napkin bank through their own monthly contributions. Girls who would, under normal circumstances, have lost school days or have been restricted to their homes during menstruation were instead able to take care of their personal hygiene, and control their mobility. Mausam and her peers were part of one of the many young or adolescent girls’ groups formed in the district in 2016 through a programme implemented by the Population Foundation of India, with the objective to enable young people, especially girls to take control of their lives and their health. These girls’ groups meet every month, share information on subjects concerning them, which include gender equality, delaying age at marriage, mental and reproductive health, hygiene and nutrition. Menstrual hygiene emerged as an … [Read more...] about Revising Marriage Age, Providing Sanitary Napkins: There’s a Lot to be Done for Girl Empowerment
Psychosis: What is it and can it be treated?
Powerful strains of cannabis found in London are driving psychosis rates to the highest levels recorded in Europe, a new study has found . The research, conducted by King’s College London, found that super-strength skunk has been linked to a third of mental health cases recorded in south east London hospitals. As a result, doctors are now warning that cannabis smoking is placing an “enormous burden” on the city’s strained psychiatric units. While many factors can contribute to the onset of psychosis, the researchers found that smoking cannabis daily tripled the chances of developing the condition. However, stronger strains, which contain levels of the active ingredient Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) above 10 per cent, increased the chances even more. The People v. Donald Trump
From the moment the attack on the Capitol began, on January 6, 2021, Donald Trump’s moral culpability was clear. That mob would never have assembled on the National Mall but for Trump’s decision to relentlessly lie about the results of the 2020 election. His legal culpability, however, was more ambiguous. We did not possess any evidence that he directly coordinated with the rioters prior to the invasion of the Capitol, and although his speech to the mob on January 6 itself admonished his followers to “fight like hell” and warned them that “you will never take back our country with weakness,” it also contained an explicit statement that they should march to the Capitol to “peacefully and patriotically” make their voices heard. Also hovering over the legal analysis was a prudential calculation. Former presidents shouldn’t be prosecuted under novel legal theories. If the government is going to prosecute, it should bring a case that’s easy to justify under existing precedent. … [Read more...] about The People v. Donald Trump
Watch: FNC’s Carlson Mocks ‘Woke’ CIA Recruitment Video — ‘At Joe Biden’s CIA, the Spies Talk Mostly About Themselves’
Tuesday, FNC’s Tucker Carlson reacted to what has become known as the “woke” CIA recruitment ad, which according to Carlson, has raised questions about the efficacy of the agency. Carlson also questioned that trend within American culture, which he said was steeped in narcissism. Transcript as follows: CARLSON: If you’ve been on the internet this week, you’ve probably seen the video we’re about to show you. If you haven’t seen it, there is really nothing we can do to prepare you for the experience of seeing it except to tell you two things about it. First, it’s entirely genuine. This is not a hoax. It’s not a deep fake. It’s not the work of some demented comedic genius who set up a parody account on Twitter. No, this video is real. The second thing to know about the video is that it’s from the CIA, and that’s not the Culinary Institute of America, the people who teach them baking and sushi preparation. No, it’s not. It’s the Central Intelligence Agency, the guys who do … [Read more...] about Watch: FNC’s Carlson Mocks ‘Woke’ CIA Recruitment Video — ‘At Joe Biden’s CIA, the Spies Talk Mostly About Themselves’
