The Pope has issued some tough love-style parenting advice for frustrated, but “overprotective” mothers with adult sons who simply won’t “leave the nest”. Pope Francis told Catholic mothers during a Mass service to mark the end of the 10 th World Meeting of Families that they should stop ironing their son’s shirts and encourage them to go and get married. He also urged adult men not to “take the easy road” and return to their mothers in “moments of difficulty”. The 85-year-old head of the Catholic Church, who has never been married and has no children, said: “We see so many young men who don’t have the courage to get married and mothers often say to me, ‘Do something, speak to my son, who is not getting married and is 37-years-old’. “But Signora, don’t iron his shirts, make the first move by sending him out, let him leave the nest.” Recommended ‘We’ve got a high quality manager here’ says Nick Pope after signing to Newcastle United … [Read more...] about Pope advises Catholic mothers to stop ironing their son’s shirts and push them to get married

Webcamming: The sex work revolution that no one is willing to talk about
The development of the internet has completely transformed the way we do business; and the “oldest profession” is no exception. In a world of online chatrooms, webcam performers can market anything from conversation to explicit sex acts. And unlike pornography or prostitution, there are virtually no laws regulating this form of sex work. Webcamming is an easy market to enter. All it takes is a computer, a decent webcam, access to a high-speed internet connection and a webcam hosting site. The hours are flexible, the working environment is safe and the salary can be very rewarding. The majority of performers are women, but there are also male and transgender performers. On sites such as Chaturbate and MyFreeCams, a tipping system operates in public chatrooms. Here, payment is voluntary, and performers are tipped for performing sexual and non-sexual acts. This makes a show profitable for the performer, at a relatively low cost to the viewer. Justices rule for American woman in bitter custody dispute
The Supreme Court ruled unanimously Wednesday for an American woman who is involved in a bitter international custody dispute with her Italian husband over their young son. The high court threw out lower court decisions ordering the return of the boy to Italy despite finding that he would be at “grave risk of psychological harm” because of the father’s physical and emotional abuse of the mother. The child, now around 6, has been living in the U.S. with his mother since 2018. Federal courts in New York ruled that judges must try to return children to their usual country of residence by imposing conditions that would mitigate the risk, under the international Hague Convention on child abduction. Writing for the Supreme Court, Justice Sonia Sotomayor said judges have ample discretion to refrain from ordering a child returned, if they find “the grave risk so unequivocal, or the potential harm so severe, that ameliorative measures would be inappropriate.” The … [Read more...] about Justices rule for American woman in bitter custody dispute

Regressive, inhumane: On the U.S. Supreme Court removing right to abortion
When a democracy rolls back a constitutional right that has been in place for almost half a century, it must consider itself in deep peril. The U.S. stands at that fraught juncture now, after its Supreme Court, in a 6-3 majority, overturned the 1973 ruling in Roe vs Wade , and took away the constitutional right to abortion . In one blow, on June 24, it withdrew from women anywhere in the country their right to reproductive and bodily autonomy. With Roe , as well as the 1992 decision in Planned Parenthood vs Casey that upheld Roe , gone, the court returned “the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives”. States can now decide whether to ban abortion , and at what stage in a pregnancy and under what circumstances. The fight over abortion has been the U.S.’s most passionately waged ideological battle. With a focus that denies any space for compassion or respect for liberty, conservatives have prioritised the task of having Roe overturned for decades. … [Read more...] about Regressive, inhumane: On the U.S. Supreme Court removing right to abortion
US Open fan clutches his face on floor as Phil Mickelson hits spectator with stray ball
It seems wherever Phil Mickelson goes, drama follows, after a fan at this week’s US Open was left clutching his face after being struck by one of Lefty’s stray shots. Mickelson was back competing on American soil for the first time since the fallout surrounding his allegiances to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series. Back in February, the 52-year-old branded the state of Saudi Arabia as ‘scary mother f*****s’ due to their human rights record, but implied he was willing to look past this and compete on the breakaway circuit in order to gain ‘leverage’ over the PGA Tour. His return at Brookline was met with cheers from the Massachusetts crowd, despite his once glittering legacy seemingly being left in tatters. In spite of the initial support, one fan was left less than impressed with the six-time major winner on day two of the third major of the campaign after one of Mickelson’s wayward shots struck him. Following the incident, the spectator was left in some discomfort on the … [Read more...] about US Open fan clutches his face on floor as Phil Mickelson hits spectator with stray ball
Feisty exchange with Poulter and Westwood over golf sportswashing shows moral compass
There may come a day - and for many it is already here - when sportswashing is so common and accepted that it is no longer a talking point. But for me, it is not here yet. Saudi Arabia has bought big boxing matches, a Formula 1 race and Newcastle United and Qatar has bought a World Cup. All participants have been rightly grilled on the issue. So it is only right to quiz the golfers who are teeing up at the first Saudi-backed golf event at the Centurion Club this week - the LIV Golf Invitational London - on whether they feel they are being used to promote the Saudi regime. If they really care. And is there anywhere in the world where, as “independent contractors”, they would not ply their trade. Phil Mickelson , who called the Saudis “scary mother*******” in comments released in February that he thought were off the record, kept to the script yesterday. But Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood literally had no answers when I asked them if there was anywhere they would not play … [Read more...] about Feisty exchange with Poulter and Westwood over golf sportswashing shows moral compass
Anti-abortion centers to grow, wield more influence post-Roe
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 6 CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — “Woman’s Choice,” the sign proclaims in bold pink letters. But despite promising abortion information and free pregnancy testing, the facility in Charleston, West Virginia, is designed to steer women facing an unwanted pregnancy away from choosing an abortion. That will become much easier now that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that states like West Virginia can make abortion illegal. It's one of hundreds of so-called crisis pregnancy centers nationwide whose aim is to discourage women from seeking abortions. The facilities, which have been accused repeatedly of deceiving women about their true purpose, are expected to wield even more influence in states where the dwindling number of clinics are now canceling abortion appointments. Often religiously affiliated, the anti-abortion centers are not licensed medical facilities and do not … [Read more...] about Anti-abortion centers to grow, wield more influence post-Roe

Internet helps “foolish” woman who handed dead parents’ will to brother
Sometimes when parents die, family dynamics change, and relationships get lost. This is the case for a woman who is now seeking advice after their brother sold their late parents' property without consulting them first. In a post shared on Mumsnet on Sunday, which has so far reached over 140 comments, the user, known as Coffeecup123456, explained that after both her parents died a few years ago she decided to have no contact with her brother, describing him as a controlling and untrustworthy person. Once her parents died, Coffeecup123456 and her brother were made joint executors of the will, but the woman relinquished her role after her mother died, to avoid "my name being attached to probate & him not doing things as he should." "Since then I discovered that for 3.5 years he was renting it out. Solicitor said I could only regain some control if I followed a lengthy /costly process of renaming myself to be an executor." After looking up the house out of curiosity, the … [Read more...] about Internet helps “foolish” woman who handed dead parents’ will to brother
