Inside the Race for the Top Job on Wall Street
In the early 1980s, Harvey M. Schwartz was working weekends in the cold room of a kosher butcher shop in New Jersey, shaping beef into hamburger patties. Two hundred miles away in upstate New York, David M. Solomon was a frat brother playing rugby and mulling an entry-level banking position. More than three decades later, the two men are competing for what may be the most coveted job on Wall Street: running Goldman Sachs. Longtime managers of separate arms of the company, Mr. Schwartz, 53, and Mr. Solomon, 55, were named co-chief operating officers and presidents of Goldman last December when Gary Cohn, who previously held the titles, joined the Trump administration. The dual promotions made the men overnight adversaries in the race to run Goldman — that is, whenever Lloyd C. Blankfein, its longstanding chairman and chief executive, steps aside. The 63-year-old Mr. Blankfein once joked that he planned to die at his desk. But at 11 years, his tenure exceeds those of his … [Read more...] about Inside the Race for the Top Job on Wall Street

Prince William says Diana’s death brought him and Harry closer in old clip
A video clip of Prince William , Prince Harry and Kate Middleton discussing how Princess Diana 's death contributed to a strong bond between the brothers has gone viral after being uploaded to social media following the publication of Harry's hit memoir. Judge allows Alex Murdaugh’s alleged financial crimes into evidence at murder trial, a pivotal win for the prosecution
In a pivotal moment in the double murder trial against Alex Murdaugh , a South Carolina judge ruled Monday that he would allow the jury to hear evidence of financial crimes allegedly perpetrated by the once-powerful lawyer . Circuit Court Judge Clifton Newman made the decision after several witnesses, including Murdaugh's former law firm colleagues and banking associates, testified without the jury present so that he could decide on the relevance of the allegations. Murdaugh, 54, is accused of fatally shooting his wife, Margaret, 52, and their youngest son, Paul, 22, on the evening of June 7, 2021. State prosecutors contend the murders were committed to cover up a slew of financial misdeeds by Murdaugh, who they say stole about $8.5 million from more than a dozen victims and sought to garner sympathy ahead of being publicly exposed. "I find that the jury is entitled to consider whether the apparent desperation of Mr. Murdaugh because of his dire financial situation … [Read more...] about Judge allows Alex Murdaugh’s alleged financial crimes into evidence at murder trial, a pivotal win for the prosecution
