The city council of Haven, Kansas , voted 3-2 on Monday to reverse a unanimous decision they made May 2 to remove "In God We Trust" decals from the city's police cars following an uproar from some in the community. The city attorney said the Haven City Council's previous decision emerged from a desire to maintain a separation between church and state , according to local KWCH. The follow-up vote on Monday was not on the city council's original agenda, which had to move their weekly forum to a nearby community center because of how many attended. Seven people spoke at the typically uneventful meeting, where all but one supported the decals. 11-year-old girl killed by stray bullet on New York City street: police
An 11-year-old girl died Monday after she was struck by a stray bullet in a bungled drive-by shooting on a street in the Bronx borough of New York City. Hitmen on a motor-scooter targeted and intended to kill a man as they rode along 166th Street and Fox Street, according to the New York Police Department. CCTV footage of the attempted hit shows the gunman riding pillion, turning to fire behind him over his shoulder at the intended target, who was running away. But as the man escaped apparently unhurt, a stray bullet hit the 11-year-old in the abdomen. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died of her injuries. NYPD Assistant Chief Philip Rivera said two men on a scooter were chasing another man on Fox Street when the suspect riding pillion opened fire on the fleeing target. Police are continuing to look for the two suspects on the scooter as well as their intended target. Deputy Chief Timothy McCormack said: "This is very, very difficult for us … [Read more...] about 11-year-old girl killed by stray bullet on New York City street: police
Manchester City keep Premier League title fate in their hands despite Mahrez penalty miss
Manchester City staged a thrilling fightback from two goals down to keep the destiny of the Premier League title in their hands, but Riyad Mahrez’s late penalty miss forced the leaders to settle for a dramatic 2-2 draw at West Ham on Sunday. Pep Guardiola’s side were in danger of gifting second placed Liverpool a premier league title lifeline after West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen struck twice in the first half. But Man City’s stirring recovery showed the character that has already brought them three premier league titles in the last four seasons. Jack Grealish got one back soon after the interval and Vladimir Coufal’s own goal completed Manchester City’s escape act. It should have been even better for Man City, but Mahrez’s penalty was saved by Lukasz Fabianski with five minutes left. While that was a bitter blow to Guardiola, who stood ashen-faced on the touchline, in the circumstances Manchester City will be relieved to have moved four points clear of Liverpool with a goal … [Read more...] about Manchester City keep Premier League title fate in their hands despite Mahrez penalty miss
“Let the geese live!”: Hundreds of fowl descend on, desecrate Bay Area city
Foster City has been dealing with a big, messy problem for years now. Namely, the hundreds of Canadian geese which have descended on the small California town and desecrated its local parks and waterways with feces. CBS Bay Area says that the city is considering euthanizing some of the stubborn geese as a last resort — and Bay Area animal rights activists have a lot to say about it. “Our message is simple, yet powerful," said In Defense of Animals’ website . " ‘Let the geese live !’ They don’t deserve to painfully suffocate to death in horror and confusion.” According to the group’s press release, the city's 2021-2022 budget allocated $20,000 and $45,000 in their 2022-2023 budget for a “geese mitigation plan.” In Defense of Animals alleges that the city will put the migratory birds in mobile gas chambers, a "cruel” process they claim will freeze and burn their lungs for 45 minutes before finally killing them. But Foster City spokesman Austin Walsh did not confirm how … [Read more...] about “Let the geese live!”: Hundreds of fowl descend on, desecrate Bay Area city
San Francisco’s High Prices are Draining the City of its Culinary Talents
San Francisco is experiencing a culinary drain of sorts due to the high cost of living in the city, which is forcing many of its most talented chefs and cooks to leave in search of more affordable cities such as Oakland in the East Bay, and beyond. With cooks earning an average salary of $29,000 annually, it is impossible for them to afford the median monthly rent of $3,000–even with roommates–without at least taking on a second job in order to supplement their income, according to local CBS Bay Area. SF Cooking School founder Jodi Liano says her students have even taken to moonlighting as food writers just to make ends meet. At San Francisco’s trendy RN74 restaurant, Chef Adam Sobel says they are having trouble hiring cooks that will stay long term. “You go through the process of hiring that person and investing training and all that and they leave because they aren’t able to live or afford the lifestyle. It makes it challenging,” Sobel said to CBS. RN74 has created … [Read more...] about San Francisco’s High Prices are Draining the City of its Culinary Talents
Too Expensive to Live: City Workers Can’t Afford to Rent in San Francisco
A growing number of San Francisco city workers can’t afford to pay their rent . The latest tech boom has caused rents to skyrocket, displacing hundreds of middle class workers. “Maybe you could find somebody who works for Google or YouTube, and they could take the larger room and that would allow you to stay,” are the words that were uttered to a San Francisco public employee by her landlord, according to SFgate.com. Claudia Flores, a 36-year-old professional who has worked in the City Planning Department for eight years, is just one example of the fastest-growing gap between rich and poor in the nation. She was booted from a room she shared in a three-bedroom Mission District condo, where she was paying $1,000 a month – a figure that is virtually non-existent according to KQED, the PBS station in San Francisco. The rent for the entire place, which is not covered by rent control, was going up to $6,300 a month and was given, instead, to “two guys in their 20s who work for … [Read more...] about Too Expensive to Live: City Workers Can’t Afford to Rent in San Francisco
Putin ally eyes decimated Ukrainian city for “resort business”
The leader of the self-declared, Russian-backed Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) in eastern Ukraine reportedly wants to rebuild the heavily damaged city of Mariupol "with an emphasis on the resort business." The comments from Denis Pushilin, the head of the breakaway republic, were reported Wednesday by the Ukrainian news site Ukrayinska Pravda. He also said that a technology park or park area could be built on the site of the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, from which hundreds of Ukrainian fighters recently evacuated after maintaining a pocket of resistance against Russian forces at the facility, the Russian-state owned news agency RIA Novosti reported. Pushilin's stated goal of rebuilding the heavily damaged and long-besieged city with a "resort" focus came as remaining Mariupol residents reportedly struggle to find food, water and medicine after facing weeks of Russia's assault. The Mariupol City Council said in a Telegram post Wednesday that civilians currently spend … [Read more...] about Putin ally eyes decimated Ukrainian city for “resort business”

Director of Institute of Liver Diseases at MGM Healthcare S. Thiagarajan said the hospital had been performing incompatible blood group (ABOi) liver transplant surgeries for a year. Annually, only 10% of over one lakh patients requiring liver transplant find cadaveric organs whereas the remaining 90% were unable to go for it because of incompatible blood group.
