Prince Harry poses “bigger problem” for “frail” monarchy than Prince Andrew

June 22, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Prince Harry poses a "bigger problem" for the British monarchy than Prince Andrew, whose damage to the royal family has been "ring-fenced" according to author and former editor of Vanity Fair , Tina Brown. Speaking to Bloomberg 's In The City podcast, Brown discussed the condition of the monarchy in the year Britain celebrates Queen Elizabeth II 's Platinum Jubilee , her 70th year on the throne. During the podcast, Brown said that "the monarchy seems more reassuring than ever, but that monarchy is at a frail point because everybody knows this is the last jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II and the question of how they will feel British after the queen dies is a big one." The author of The Palace Papers also described Prince Andrew , who made headlines in June over his canceled planned public appearance at the Garter Day ceremony , as having "not enhanced the gravitas of the crown" following his involvement in a sexual assult lawsuit in 2021 . The lawsuit was … [Read more...] about Prince Harry poses “bigger problem” for “frail” monarchy than Prince Andrew

William says Caribbean community “profoundly wronged” by U.K. Government

June 22, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Prince William, fresh from celebrating his 40th birthday, has made a politically charged speech marking "Windrush Day," a day of commemoration in Britain dedicated to a generation of Commonwealth nationals who helped rebuild the country after World War II. A scandal was uncovered in 2017 when it emerged that thousands of people who moved to Britain between 1948 and 1973—known as the "Windrush generation" after the name of a passenger liner that brought the first post-war Caribbean migrants to the U.K.—had been wrongly classed as illegal migrants, detained and in some cases deported. William's speech on Wednesday calling members of the Windrush generation "victims of racism" and "profoundly wronged" by the U.K. government is a rare example of the prince weighing in on a polarizing political issue and is likely to generate criticism. He said: "We know without question, that the Windrush Generation have made our culture richer, our services stronger, and our fellow countrymen … [Read more...] about William says Caribbean community “profoundly wronged” by U.K. Government

Harry, Meghan jubilee visit: “The palace knew who they were dealing with”

June 22, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Buckingham Palace "knew who they were dealing with" when it came to handling the public appearances of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for Queen Elizabeth II 's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June, according to a prominent royal commentator. Richard Fitzwilliams, a regular commentator on royal affairs, told British political figure Nigel Farage on the GB News network that Harry and Meghan have done "a lot of damage in the United States" to the monarchy but that the institution "has lasted over a thousand years." When told by Farage that there is "worse to come" with the expected publication of Harry's memoir later this year, Fitzwilliams responded by saying, "there is undoubtedly potentially worse to come but what impressed me during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations which you mentioned to begin with, the palace knew who they were dealing with." He went on to give examples of the palace's apparent handling of the Sussexes as they made their first joint public return … [Read more...] about Harry, Meghan jubilee visit: “The palace knew who they were dealing with”

PGA Tour plots strategy to compete with LIV Golf

June 22, 2022 by www.sfchronicle.com

Commissioner Jay Monahan said the PGA Tour can’t win an “arms race” against Saudi-funded LIV Golf when the weapon is money. His response Wednesday was to boost prize money in eight elite events and rely on loyalty and legacy among his players. Monahan delivered another round of stinging criticism against Greg Norman and his rival league. LIV Golf has snagged players who have combined to win nine majors in the past five years, including Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau. The latest to sign was Koepka, whose deal with LIV Golf was announced just as Monahan began his first news conference in three months. Koepka won’t play in the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship this week, the PGA Tour announced. “I am not naive,” Monahan said. “If this is an arms race and if the only weapons here are dollar bills, the PGA Tour can’t compete. The PGA Tour, an American institution, can’t compete with a foreign monarchy that is spending billions of dollars in attempt to buy the … [Read more...] about PGA Tour plots strategy to compete with LIV Golf

British Vogue has been criticized online for publishing a story titled Kate Middleton Revisits Her Favorite White Power Suit on a day that the royal unveiled a monument to the Windrush generation . The Windrush generation is a term used to describe migrants who were encouraged to settle in Britain between 1948 and 1973 to aid in the country's post-war recovery. These migrants—the majority of whom came from the Caribbean—were at the center of a U.K political scandal in 2017 after it emerged that, owing to stricter immegration enforcement, thousands had been wrongly classed as illegal immigrants with a number being deported. Both William and Kate unveiled the national monument at Waterloo Station on Wednesday with the prince giving a powerful speech in which he addressed the "racism" faced by the Windrush generation when they arrived in Britain and said that "discrimination remains an all too familiar experience for black men and women in Britain in 2022." Wade, according to our reports from the U.S. Supreme Court and our own Shannon Bream, is that Roe v. Wade has been overturned and the question of abortion has been returned to the states.
