A woman living in a model town run by Prince Charles 's Duchy of Cornwall says she is being evicted for having too many plants. Alexandra Wilson-Jones, 49, says she has been served an eviction notice at her house in Poundbury—the Prince of Wales's model village in Dorset in the south of England, in the U.K. She has fallen out with the Duchy over a display of plants in a communal courtyard outside her home. The future king of England is a known lover of plants and flowers and has previously said he loves to talk to them. But Wilson-Jones ran into problems when she put plants outside the property. A landscape architect by profession, Wilson-Jones says she was sent a letter by the Duchy telling her to significantly reduce the plants by January 2023. This week, she said she had received a Section 21 notice, which calls for the landlord to require possession of the property. Wilson-Jones says she was in the process of producing a petition to the Prince of Wales when she received … [Read more...] about Woman on Prince Charles’ estate alleges eviction for having too many plants

Russia launches airstrike as it tries to “make up” for loss of troops: Kyiv
Russian forces launched an airstrike in eastern Ukraine on Thursday in a bit to "make up for the loss of personnel and equipment" they have suffered, according to the Ukrainian army. An update was posted on the official 'General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine' Facebook page. It reported widespread Russian shelling on Ukrainian forces in the north-east, east and south-east of the country, along with a number of Russian attempts to advance in the east that either "did not succeed" or were only "partially successful." Russian forces shelled numerous Ukrainian towns and villages near the fiercely contested city of Slovyansk, whilst an airstrike hit near Zaluman. The Ukrainian military speculated this heavy bombardment was an effort by "the enemy" to "make up for the loss of personnel and equipment" in previous fighting. Russian artillery hit a number of villages around Kharkiv, Ukraine's second city, which Russia launched an unsuccessful attempt to capture at the … [Read more...] about Russia launches airstrike as it tries to “make up” for loss of troops: Kyiv

A woman on Mumsnet has sought clarification on whether she is being unreasonable to miss her brother's wedding because she can't get childcare. One Twitter user wrote, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned," after seeing a now-viral newspaper advert that has captured attention around the world. Nick Kyrgios Produces Another Showstopper to Down Compatriot Alex De Minaur
Australian Nick Kyrgios produced another extraordinary performance to demolish compatriot Alex de Minaur 6-2 6-3 at the Canadian Masters on Thursday, a day after stunning the world number one Daniil Medvedev. The fiery Wimbledon finalist has been playing the best tennis of his career and is showing no signs of slowing down in Montreal, where he won the first four games of the opening set in which de Minaur won scarcely more than half of his first-serve points. The pair traded breaks to open the second set but the 27-year-old Kyrgios would not be denied, breaking de Minaur on the third try in the third game and again in the seventh.Kyrgios briefly appeared agitated when he gave up a break in the penultimate game but found his composure to get job done in a little over an hour, breaking back to love in the final game. The win will move Kyrgios high enough in the rankings to be seeded at the U.S. Open later this month. “Today was really hard for me mentally to play Alex, we’re such good … [Read more...] about Nick Kyrgios Produces Another Showstopper to Down Compatriot Alex De Minaur
The One Social-Media Feature That People Still Love
Almost every social-media platform offers its users an option to privatize their account—a way for people to control who engages with their content, often to avoid the judgment, schadenfreude, bullying, and snark that are ubiquitous online. Many of these options aren’t terribly helpful, though. Facebook seems to constantly adjust its privacy settings, and it can be difficult to tell what information your friends have access to. On TikTok, unless you want a fully private account, you have to select who can see each and every video before you post. And Twitter’s protected-Tweets feature isn’t ideal if you have a large following; the “Retweet” button may be disabled, but your followers can still screenshot and share what you post. Instagram arguably edges out the competition with its Close Friends feature, which allows people to share Stories with a curated list of followers that is stored in their user settings. Though the app, with its recent attempts to mimic TikTok , has … [Read more...] about The One Social-Media Feature That People Still Love

Inquiry finds lack of coordination between nephrology and urology departments
An inquiry conducted by Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Asha Thomas into the alleged lapses that occurred at Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College hospital, where a patient who underwent renal transplant had died earlier in June, has pointed out that there is a definite lack of coordination between the nephrology and urology departments in conducting the deceased donor organ donation transplant. Ms. Thomas’s report pins most of the blame on the head of nephrology, who had been away on official duties but who it says had left town without handing over charge or informing the authorities, so that there was none at the top to direct things. However, the report also states that any speculation that a perceived delay in performing surgery after receiving the cadaver kidney has contributed to the patient’s death is misplaced. It has recommended action against those responsible for not maintaining the protocols. It was on June 19 that Sureshkumar, a 52-year-old with … [Read more...] about Inquiry finds lack of coordination between nephrology and urology departments
