Autumn's continual spiral toward the endless drudge of winter is in full force, with a wintry mix and freezing rain a possibility in this week's weather forecast.Rain is predicted to pick up in Philadelphia tonight around 9 p.m. and continue heavily overnight and then lingering into Tuesday morning. It is unlikely that the wet snow headed for the Poconos will reach Philadelphia and most forecasts are predicting only rain in the region for Monday night and Tuesday. After a cold and windy Wednesday, temperatures are expected to reach the low 30s on Thursday morning, when the chance of snow is most prevalent. Reports show a 70 percent chance of precipitation on Thursday. Depending on when exactly the cold air moves out and the precipitation moves in, the twain could overlap, creating a wintry mix. If the cold air moves out before the precipitation picks up, it could be a more mild, rainy day, with temperatures in the 40s. The forecast shows precipitation continuing through Friday, … [Read more...] about Philadelphia could see a wintry mix, freezing rain with cold temps this week
The Florida elections official tasked with counting votes in Broward County accidentally mixed up more than a dozen invalid ballots with nearly 200 valid ballots. Broward County’s three-person canvassing board discovered Friday night that Broward County Board of Elections supervisor Brenda Snipes mixed 20 votes containing mismatched signatures in a pile of 205 provisional ballots, the Miami Herald reported. The canvassing board inspected the 205 provisional ballots Friday night after Snipes agreed to present them to the board for inspection. Broward County election staffers had set those 205 ballots aside out of the more than 600 provisional ballots cast on Election Day. The county’s canvassing board declared most of those provisional ballots invalid because the voters either registered to vote after the deadline, voted at the wrong precinct, or voted multiple times. Pat Nesbit, Broward County’s Election Day operations manager, said elections workers set aside the … [Read more...] about Report: Florida Elections Official Mixed Bad Ballots with Good Ones
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has large coal reserves of some nine billion tons, or some 1.2 percent of the world`s total deposits, yet they should be exploited commercially in an environment-friendly manner to avoid its negative impact. Most importantly, coal is still a potential mining resource needed to develop energy, generate electricity, and produce energy mix. Hence, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is optimizing the use of coal in the national energy mix. A change in the use of energy sources is estimated in 2025, with coal utilization at 33 percent; natural gas, 30 percent; petroleum, 21 percent; and other forms of energy, 17 percent. This awareness arises, as oil reserves are depleting and will run out someday. "We admit coal is a fast step in providing primary energy. The government does not remain silent about what is there," Deputy Minister of ESDM Arcandra Tahar noted in a written statement received by Antara in Jakarta on Sunday (Nov 4). He … [Read more...] about Government to optimize use of coal in energy mix
In the biking family, cyclocross comes off as a bit of a wild child — ready to get messy, take some risks, and do it all again if necessary. Right down to the messy part, that was the playbook last weekend in Crystal at one of the premier events of the Minnesota cyclocross season. The Fulton Star Cross is one in a series of weekend races that cyclocross riders have circled on their calendars when the season arrives in late August. By the time riders went over, up, down and around Lions Valley Place Park in Crystal, many had their bike legs. The weekend series began Sept. 9 at the All-City Intercontinental Championships at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis. Sunday might have lacked Saturday’s free Fulton beer garden and the heckling that is cyclocross etiquette, but it had all the mud, grit and wheeled acrobatics. In this sport, competitors deal with twisty courses (at Lions Park, switchbacks on a downhill, too). They might deal with thick muddy sections, like they did … [Read more...] about Cyclocross in Minnesota is the right mix: Challenges, cut with good times.
