There weren’t any flashy cars or sets for elaborate photo shoots laid out for recruits at Miami’s Legends Camp on Saturday morning. Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal told the hundreds of high school players, coaches and family members on UM’s campus that they were there to work. The returning Miami alumni, with numerous Super Bowl rings and Pro Bowl selections on their resumes, brought the flash. “It’s not time for paradise yet,” said Cristobal, referring to the previous name of the team’s flagship summer camp. “We’ve got to go to work.” “Work” was the theme of the camp, as former Hurricanes and Dallas Cowboys star Michael Irvin followed Cristobal’s opening speech with a similar message. “Who’s going to make a commitment to one day be coming back here with a black shirt that says, ‘Legends’?” Irvin said, referring to the shirts Miami alumni were wearing. The camp was part of a busy weekend for Cristobal and UM’s coaching staff. In addition to the camp, the Hurricanes … [Read more...] about ‘We’ve got to go to work’ — Mario Cristobal welcomes alumni, high school recruits to Hurricanes’ Legends Camp

Three-year-old missing for months found dead in mom’s basement freezer
A mother was arrested Friday after police discovered the decaying body of her 3-year-old son in her basement freezer. Police arrived at the home in the Monte Vista neighborhood of Detroit in the early morning, conducting a welfare check on the child following an investigation by Child Protective Services (CPS). Neighbors told authorities that some of them had not seen the boy in months, according to the Detroit Free Press . Despite protests from the 30-year-old mother, and attempts to get the officers to leave her home, the search was eventually carried out and the body of the boy, whose name has not been released to the public, was found. In a statement, Detroit Police Chief James White said that it is not yet known how long the body was kept in the freezer, but did confirm that it had begun to decompose. Agnipath will create two Armies in country, says Hooda
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in Haryana Assembly Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday said that Centre’s ‘Agnipath’ scheme for defence forces would create two types of Armies in the country- one permanent and one temporary. He said the party would continue to oppose ‘Agnipath’ scheme and would hold a sit-in ‘dharna’ across the country on June 27. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Hooda said the ‘Agnipath’ scheme is neither in the interest of the country, nor in the interest of national security, the Army or the youth. “With this plan, there would be two types of armies in the country, one permanent and one temporary. It will be very difficult to establish coordination between them,” he said. Mr. Hooda said that the Haryana government is misleading the youth of the State by promising permanent jobs to ‘Agniveers’, while the reality is that Haryana is facing the highest unemployment in the whole country, due to the ill-conceived policies of the BJP-JJP government. … [Read more...] about Agnipath will create two Armies in country, says Hooda

PDP Chief Mehbooba Urges Youth to Shun Militancy, Accuses J&K Administration of Corruption
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday accused the central government of “robbing” jobs, land, and minerals from the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The former J&K chief minister asked people to not feel helpless and to muster the courage to raise their voices for their rights. “They (those at the helm) might try to push you to a point of hopelessness and instill a defeatist attitude in you but you should not lose hope and be more determined to fight,” she said, adding that their situation might get worse than the situation in Gaza if one does not resent. Mehbooba urged the youth to shun militancy and save their lives, claiming that the security forces personnel won’t spare even a new recruit for a few days. “The security is getting incentives for killing militants. I would urge parents to save their kids,” she said, adding, “I hear every day three or four youths have been killed, which means the local recruitment here has increased.” The PDP chief also accused the Jammu and … [Read more...] about PDP Chief Mehbooba Urges Youth to Shun Militancy, Accuses J&K Administration of Corruption

Protests and celebrations as Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade: Live updates
Protests continued in cities across the country Saturday after the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling that had guaranteed the right to abortion in the United States. As states began to enact abortion bans and clinics stopped offering the procedure, large crowds gathered in cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta, some jubilant, others dismayed at the decision that stripped away women’s constitutional right to abortion. Both sides predicted the fight over abortion would continue. Key highlights: President Joe Biden called it a “sad day” for the U.S. and said it would be up to voters in November to select candidates who would protect a host of rights — not just abortion but also marriage equality and the right to contraception. Centrist Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Susan Collins, R-Maine, suggested they were misled by Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, two key votes in the decision to overturn Roe. Dhillon won the event with a best throw of 56.24m. She had won gold in the National Inter-State Championships (June 10-14) in Chennai with a best effort of 55.67m. Dhillon was included in the 36-member Indian athletics team on June 16, with the rider of “subject to guidelines achieved in Kazakhstan” against her name. The CWG qualifying guidelines prepared by Athletics Federation of India (AFI) is 58.00m for women’s discus throw. It is to be seen what the AFI will do in case of Dhillon, who had hurled the discus past the CWG qualifying standard with an effort of 58.03m while winning gold in the Indian Grand Prix in Bhubaneswar in May. The AFI had included five more athletes — high jumper Tejaswin Shankar, marathoners Srinu Bugatha and Anish Thapa, heptathlete Swapna Barman and … [Read more...] about Indians Fail to Impress at Athletics Meet in Kazakhstan
