The season has come when many home gardeners, their numbers booming since the pandemic began, are being rewarded with fully matured, ready-to-pick vegetables and flowers. It’s also vacation season, and this summer travel is back. How do you maintain your garden and take advantage of all that homegrown goodness during extended trips away? Even experienced gardeners can end up with more tomatoes, beans and zucchini than they’d expected come late summer. Garden sitters are one answer. Some home gardeners hire professionals, while many just rely on neighbors and hope for the best. “It’s really hard to leave the garden,” said Theresa Fiumano-Rhatigan, a longtime home gardener in Brooklyn. She relies on her parents and other nearby relatives as garden sitters during her five weeks each summer in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. … [Read more...] about For hire or food, garden sitters save the day during summer

First boys emerge from Thailand cave as rescue mission enters final act
CHIANG RAI, Thailand — Rescuers in northern Thailand on Sunday extracted four members of a youth soccer team from the cave where they had been trapped for more than two weeks, signaling the final act of a saga that has gripped the world. Three of the boys were taken to a hospital by helicopter while the fourth was taken by an ambulance, Chiang Rai Gov. Narongsak Osottanakorn said at a news conference Sunday night local time. "We were faster than expected, more successful than I expected, and everyone is happy," he said. As efforts ended for the night, the rescue operation chief said they would resume in 10 to 20 hours because workers "used all the oxygen" and needed to reset their air tanks. Based on that timeframe, rescue operations were set to resume at around 7 a.m. Monday (8 p.m. ET Sunday), but when that time arrived it was not clear if the effort had resumed. Christie on Stone Arrest: ‘They Were Trying to Intimidate Him’
Monday, former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) reacted to Roger Stone’s Friday morning arrest, saying the FBI was “trying to intimidate him” with their use of AR-15s and flak jackets. Christie said the FBI raid “was over the top” and “overkill.” “You don’t need to bring guys with AR-15s and flack jackets as if they’re going to get shot,” Christie explained. “When I saw them coming in with all the protective gear it signaled to me, well, they must know there are weapons inside.” “I think they were trying to intimidate [Roger Stone],” he argued. “I think it’s the wrong thing for prosecutors to do. I think that Mr. Mueller made a mistake in authorizing that because you’re going to be criticized” Follow Trent Baker on Twitter @MagnifiTrent … [Read more...] about Christie on Stone Arrest: ‘They Were Trying to Intimidate Him’
Nolte: Covid Lockdowns, Crime Kill New York’s 9/11 Museum
In today’s edition of You Get What You Vote For , after 16 years, New York City’s 9/11 Tribute Museum will close its doors for good this week. The culprits were all created by Democrats: COVID lockdowns and crime. “Two-thirds of our income revenue annually comes from our earned income from admissions,” Jennifer Adams-Webb, co-founder of the museum and the CEO of the September 11th Families’ Association, told The Post. “We were completely closed for six months in 2020. We had been averaging 300,000 visitors a year … and last year we had a total of 26,000 visitors, so it completely annihilated our earned income.” … “There’s no way we’re going to be able to dig out of this at this rate,” said Adams-Webb. “We need the state or the city to step in with other partners to be able to say, ‘We value you. We want to save this organization,’ but at this point, we can’t continue to dig into a hole.” The 9/11 Tribute Museum had been a stopping point for American and international … [Read more...] about Nolte: Covid Lockdowns, Crime Kill New York’s 9/11 Museum
