The season has come when many home gardeners, their numbers booming since the pandemic began, are being rewarded with fully matured, ready-to-pick vegetables and flowers. It’s also vacation season, and this summer travel is back. How do you maintain your garden and take advantage of all that homegrown goodness during extended trips away? Even experienced gardeners can end up with more tomatoes, beans and zucchini than they’d expected come late summer. Garden sitters are one answer. Some home gardeners hire professionals, while many just rely on neighbors and hope for the best. “It’s really hard to leave the garden,” said Theresa Fiumano-Rhatigan, a longtime home gardener in Brooklyn. She relies on her parents and other nearby relatives as garden sitters during her five weeks each summer in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. … [Read more...] about For hire or food, garden sitters save the day during summer

Cave rescue operation ends as all trapped Thai boys are freed

July 10, 2018 by www.nbcnews.com

CHIANG RAI, Thailand — After 17 long nights trapped in a dark and damp cave, four remaining boys and their soccer coach were freed one-by-one by divers in Thailand on Tuesday. Rescuers started the day hoping to help the final five who had been stranded for more than two weeks reach the surface and safety. The first of the group emerged Tuesday afternoon local time with the others following soon after, ending an eight hour and 10 minute operation. "We are not sure if this is a miracle, a science, or what. All the 13 Wild Boars are now out of the cave," the Thai navy SEALs posted on Facebook, referring to the name of the boys' team. The medical condition of the boys rescued Tuesday was not immediately known. Officials previously said that the healthiest boys would be brought out first. The complicated operation started Sunday when expert divers rescued the first four boys. They then went back in on Monday and retrieved four more . Thai diver dies amid cave rescue of trapped soccer team

July 6, 2018 by www.nbcnews.com

CHIANG RAI, Thailand — The death of a former Thai navy SEAL early Friday during the rescue operation to save a boys' soccer team trapped in a flooded cave was the latest setback for a mission fraught with danger as officials raced against worsening weather. Saman Kunan, 38, fell unconscious underwater and died around 1 a.m. local time as he attempted to return from placing air tanks deep inside the underground complex. A fellow diver tried to revive him but was unsuccessful. "The conditions in the cave are tough," Adm. Apakorn Yuukongkaew, commander of the SEALs unit, told reporters on Friday. "Once he placed the oxygen tanks he became unconscious on his way back. His buddy tried to administer first aid, when there was no response he tried to move him," Apakorn added. "We won't let his life be in vain. We will carry on." Thailand cave operation called off for day with 8 now rescued

July 9, 2018 by www.nbcnews.com

CHIANG RAI, Thailand — Four members of the youth soccer team trapped for more than two weeks in a flooded cave in Thailand were freed Monday, bringing the total number of boys rescued to eight. Six hours after operations restarted on Monday morning, a stretcher was carried from the mouth of the cave to a waiting ambulance, which then sped away with its lights flashing. A Thai military official later confirmed that a boy had emerged around 5 p.m. local time (6 a.m. ET). Thailand cave rescue: four more boys brought to safety July 9, 2018 02:26 Three more boys were carried out in the hours that followed, according to a post on the Thai navy SEALs Facebook page. First boys emerge from Thailand cave as rescue mission enters final act

July 9, 2018 by www.nbcnews.com

CHIANG RAI, Thailand — Rescuers in northern Thailand on Sunday extracted four members of a youth soccer team from the cave where they had been trapped for more than two weeks, signaling the final act of a saga that has gripped the world. Three of the boys were taken to a hospital by helicopter while the fourth was taken by an ambulance, Chiang Rai Gov. Narongsak Osottanakorn said at a news conference Sunday night local time. "We were faster than expected, more successful than I expected, and everyone is happy," he said. As efforts ended for the night, the rescue operation chief said they would resume in 10 to 20 hours because workers "used all the oxygen" and needed to reset their air tanks. Based on that timeframe, rescue operations were set to resume at around 7 a.m. Monday (8 p.m. ET Sunday), but when that time arrived it was not clear if the effort had resumed. Members of the audience broke out in applause when the rescue was announced. The boys traveled more than … [Read more...] about First boys emerge from Thailand cave as rescue mission enters final act

Christie on Stone Arrest: ‘They Were Trying to Intimidate Him’

January 28, 2019 by www.breitbart.com

Monday, former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) reacted to Roger Stone’s Friday morning arrest, saying the FBI was “trying to intimidate him” with their use of AR-15s and flak jackets. Christie said the FBI raid “was over the top” and “overkill.” “You don’t need to bring guys with AR-15s and flack jackets as if they’re going to get shot,” Christie explained. “When I saw them coming in with all the protective gear it signaled to me, well, they must know there are weapons inside.” “I think they were trying to intimidate [Roger Stone],” he argued. “I think it’s the wrong thing for prosecutors to do. I think that Mr. Mueller made a mistake in authorizing that because you’re going to be criticized” Follow Trent Baker on Twitter @MagnifiTrent … [Read more...] about Christie on Stone Arrest: ‘They Were Trying to Intimidate Him’

Nolte: Covid Lockdowns, Crime Kill New York’s 9/11 Museum

August 18, 2022 by www.breitbart.com

In today’s edition of You Get What You Vote For , after 16 years, New York City’s 9/11 Tribute Museum will close its doors for good this week. The culprits were all created by Democrats: COVID lockdowns and crime. “Two-thirds of our income revenue annually comes from our earned income from admissions,” Jennifer Adams-Webb, co-founder of the museum and the CEO of the September 11th Families’ Association, told The Post. “We were completely closed for six months in 2020. We had been averaging 300,000 visitors a year … and last year we had a total of 26,000 visitors, so it completely annihilated our earned income.” … “There’s no way we’re going to be able to dig out of this at this rate,” said Adams-Webb. “We need the state or the city to step in with other partners to be able to say, ‘We value you. We want to save this organization,’ but at this point, we can’t continue to dig into a hole.” The 9/11 Tribute Museum had been a stopping point for American and international … [Read more...] about Nolte: Covid Lockdowns, Crime Kill New York’s 9/11 Museum
