There was a time when Miami Dolphins receiver Kenny Stills was bothered by the backlash over his decision to kneel on the sideline during the national anthem, his way of following Colin Kaepernick's lead and protesting social injustice. He is no longer worried. If anything, his resolve got stronger. "We're not going anywhere," Stills said. Stills was one of two players who kneeled for the anthem in Week 1 around the NFL. Fellow Dolphins receiver Albert Wilson was the other. League-wide, only about 10 players participated in any form of protests. On Thursday, two days removed from meeting with veterans on Sept. 11 and getting lauded by U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, Stills insisted that his pregame statements are not going away. Miami Dolphins Draft Alabama Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick "It's not going to change," Stills said. "Activism isn't something you just kind of get involved in and then turn your back on it. Once your eyes are open to some of the things that are happening, you … [Read more...] about ‘We’re Not Going Anywhere’: Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills Will Continue Kneeling
The Miami-Dade Florida Task Force One team is on standby in South Carolina and prepared to medically assist people as Hurricane Florence pushes ashore near the Carolina coastline. Around 80 members of the task force are in Charleston, along with dogs and water vessels to protect and rescue residents who may be affected by the potentially catastrophic hurricane. "Us being the Swiss Army knife of rescue services, whatever we need to do medically, I'm ready to help support that mission," said Dr. Ben Abo, the medical director of Task Force One. Get your wallets ready -- city commissioners are considering raising parking rates in some popular parts of Miami. Visitors may soon need to pay more to park in Wynwood, Brickell, Little River, Calle Ocho and Coral Way. City commissioners discussed this proposal at a meeting Thursday. "That seems like a little much to me, they’re already pretty high," said Iulia Tath. Spots in Little River will see an increase from $1.75 an hour to $2.50 an hour. Wynwood would see the biggest hike, from $1.25 an hour to $3 an hour. Garage rates would also increase, by as much as $90 more in Brickell alone. "We understand from the Parking Authority that they haven't changed rates in nine years and they need the additional revenue, but for me, it's important that this doesn't fall on the backs of the residents," said commissioner Ken Russell. "I will be asking for an amendment on the floor to increase the residential discount on the parking rates. The proposed rate for residents is 30 … [Read more...] about Parking Rates May Rise in Parts of Miami

Braulio Gonzalez was arrested Thursday as a result of an ongoing investigation, Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez said in a statement. "Detectives from our Special Victims Bureau arrested a member of our agency. To say that I am shocked and disturbed at these serious allegations is an understatement," the statement read. "As I have said before, no one is above the law and I offer the victim in the case, my assurance of our commitment to a thorough investigation." The Miami Heraldreported that the 44-year-old Gonzalez was a member of the department's Special Response Team.
