Energy 202: Democrats ding Trump on gas prices, just as Trump once did to Obama
Dino Grandoni, The Washington Post Published 7:40 am, Thursday, May 24, 2018 WASHINGTON - Top Democrats in Congress tried to tie a recent rise in gasoline prices to President Donald Trump as the summer driving season approaches and the fall's midterm elections follow soon after. Standing in front of an Exxon station blocks from Capitol Hill, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., made the case that Trump's decision to end U.S. participation in the Iran nuclear deal brokered by his predecessor, President Barack Obama, is constraining global oil supply and forcing motorists to tighten their belts before the Memorial Day weekend. "President Trump's reckless decision to pull out of the Iran deal has led to higher oil prices," Schumer told reporters. "These higher oil prices are translating directly to soaring gas prices, something we know hurts middle- and lower-income people." The gas station news conference is just the latest chapter in a long history of Washington … [Read more...] about Energy 202: Democrats ding Trump on gas prices, just as Trump once did to Obama

Offshore wind power, long ignored in U.S., wins foothold in Massachusetts
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — On the waterfront of this fabled former whaling hub, the outlines of a major new industry are starting to appear. Crews of research boats perform last-minute tuneups before heading out to map the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. A large weather buoy decked out with gear for measuring wind speeds waits on the quay for repairs. And a 1,200-foot stretch of the port has been beefed up to bear enormous loads. New Bedford hopes to soon be the operations center for the first major offshore wind farm in the United States, bringing billions of dollars of investment and thousands of jobs to the town and other ports on the East Coast. On Wednesday, that effort took a major step forward as the state of Massachusetts, after holding an auction, selected a group made up of a Danish investment firm and a Spanish utility to erect giant turbines on the ocean bottom, beginning about 15 miles off Martha’s Vineyard. This initial project will generate 800 megawatts of … [Read more...] about Offshore wind power, long ignored in U.S., wins foothold in Massachusetts
