Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s surprise visit to Native American conference
WASHINGTON ― Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) made a surprise appearance at a Native American conference on Tuesday.Warren spoke at the National Indian Women’s “Supporting Each Other” lunch, where she introduced Cheryl Andrews-Maltais, the chairwoman of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head Aquinnah in Massachusetts. The event took place during an annual meeting of the National Congress of American Indians.Warren received a standing ovation from tribal leaders and other Native attendees as she approached the stage. She called on Congress to take more action on Native issues, including “the alarming number of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls,” suicide rates among Native people, housing, health care and addiction. Emerson Poll: New Mexico Senate Race Tied
New Mexico’s Senate race could swing for either candidate, as a new poll shows Democrat Xochitl Torres tied with the GOP’s Yvette Herrell in a state where President Donald Trump outperformed the last two Republican presidential candidates. Emerson College found that Torres and Herrell both have 47 percent, with six percent undecided with about a week until Election Day. In New Mexico’s other midterm races, the poll found that Democratic Sen. Martin Heinrich has a sizable lead over both Republican opponent Mick Rich and Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Michelle Lujan Grisham holds a slim advantage over Republican Steve Pearce, Democrat Debra Haaland is edging out the GOP’s Janice Arnold-Jones in the race for New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District, while Democratic Rep.
