SADIQ Khan has been accused of wasting £1.3million on a "soft justice" scheme in which criminals apologise to their victims in person — as only 10 crooks said sorry in two years. The Mayor of London launched the restorative justice programme shortly after his election in 2016. It was aimed at getting criminals to say sorry directly to their victims for making them go through traumatic events like burglaries and muggings. But only 10 offenders took part in the meetings and fewer than 1,000 victims were referred to the Restore: Justice scheme, the Mail On Sunday reports. These numbers are made all the more shocking when compared with the fact that an estimated 1.5million Londoners were the victims of crime in the last two years. When the project launched in 2017, Khan said he wanted to make it so that "all Londoners affected by crime have the chance to sit down with their offenders if they wish to". But details from the London Assembly show 988 victims were referred to the … [Read more...] about Sadiq Khan blasted for ‘£1.3m soft justice scheme’ where criminals say sorry to victims as just 10 face-to-face apologies held in two years

HMRC spent more than £10,000 on flowers over the past five years to say sorry to taxpayers for mistakes, it has been revealed. Despite criticism, the taxman defended the delivery of bouquets as a "more personal gesture" for responding to complaints.According to a Freedom of Information request by the Daily Telegraph, HMRC paid florists a total of £10,298 between 2014 and this year to date. This included £3,149 in the space of one year alone, although spending on flowers last year was less than £900 - down from £2,547 in 2016.The newspaper reported past errors include sending a cafe owner from Stockport a near-£1bn bill, while flowers were also sent to a pensioner who was due a tax rebate of £800 but received a cheque for £1 instead.Campaigners claimed the spend was more evidence of the need for a simpler tax system to cut down on HMRC blunders.John O'Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance said: "What a ridiculous and woefully … [Read more...] about HMRC spends £10,000 on flowers to say ‘sorry’ for tax mistakes
The popular doll Barbie is taking to the internet to empower young women, and her latest vlog has created a lot of buzz because of what she’s challenging girls to do-- to stop saying sorry when you’re not sorry. Saying "sorry" is often a verbal hiccup for most women. When someone bumps into you, you may say "sorry." If a restaurant messes up your order you may say "sorry" for asking them to fix it. But, is it a bad habit, or do we actually mean what we say? "I think a lot of people say it when they don't actually mean it," says Barbie. The famous doll has been empowering women on her YouTube channel. In a recent vlog, Barbie says young girls are saying sorry too much."There is a bigger issue around sorry, especially with girls," expresses the doll. Isaac Stanley-Becker, The Washington Post Published 3:05 am PDT, Wednesday, July 25, 2018 The President of the United States is coming to speak. What an honor. What a coup. But be careful. If the past is any guide, you might end up having to say sorry. Or admonish your own members. Or generally do damage control. This is the baggage that comes with hosting Donald Trump, who takes pride in pushing rhetorical boundaries. "I've been challenged by so many people and I don't, frankly, have time for total political correctness," Trump, then a candidate, said during a Republican primary debate in 2015. The latest cleanup effort came after Trump's remarks Tuesday at the 2018 convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a nonprofit veterans service organization founded in 1899 by James C. Putnam, a veteran of the Spanish-American War. During his speech in Kansas City, Missouri, Trump lashed out at the news media, which prompted some in the audience to boo and heckle members of … [Read more...] about Trump doesn’t say sorry.
