THE Culture Secretary told Mark Zuckerberg to his face that the UK government would become the first in the world to introduce a legal crackdown on Facebook’s harmful content. Writing in today’s Sun, Jeremy Wright explains how he told Mr Zuckerberg at a meeting at Facebook’s officers in San Francisco in February that Britain had “reached a turning point” over its failure to act. And Mr Wright told him the UK Government could “no longer sit by and let harms go uncontrolled,” adding that the time had come where new laws were now the “only option”. By Chris McGonigal With Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg scheduled to testify in front of Congress this week, one advocacy group found a really creepy way to bring attention to its cause. Global advocacy group Avaaz posed 100 cardboard cutouts of Zuckerberg on the east lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday. By Paul Blumenthal 120 WASHINGTON ― After initially apologizing and accepting responsibility for failing to protect user data, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg declared support for some vague form of regulation as 44 senators questioned him during his first congressional testimony. “My position is not that there should be no regulation,” Zuckerberg said. “I think the real question, as the internet becomes more important in people’s lives, is what is the right regulation?” Under more direct questioning, the 33-year-old billionaire refused to endorse any specific regulatory proposal.
