Remote places all over the world can be explored at a click thanks to Google Maps. The website allows users to go wherever they like and see more of the planet from the comfort of their own home. But one island off the coast of Alaska is hidden on Google Maps and has a dark history of nuclear testing. Amchitka is a volcanic and unstable island around 116 square miles in size. It has been part of the United States since Alaska was bought from Russia back in 1867. In the Second World War, the island was used by US forces as an airfield and marked as a possible target for Japanese troops. Monkeypox, a virus normally found in West Africa, is currently having an outbreak in countries where it's rarely seen. This map, developed by Global.health , shows the virus' progress across the world, and tracks both confirmed and suspected cases as they arrive in each country. The team behind the map had been developing infrastructure for tracking and surveillance for outbreaks for many years, but during COVID-19 , they formalized a lot of the efforts to collect data in the early course of major infectious disease emergence. So far, monkeypox cases have been detected in 19 countries, with over 300 suspected or confirmed cases . The strain of the virus in the latest outbreak appears to be similar to one involved in a 2018 outbreak and scientists are trying to determine why it is spreading so successfully now. Currently based in Kansas, the United States, Chee, 24, has put Malaysia on the world map by earning a Guinness World Record (GWR) in the "Farthest flight by a paper aircraft” category. His paper plane design flew 77.134m, beating the previous record of 69.14m held by Americans John Collins and Joe Ayoob in 2012. “It feels long overdue to put Malaysia in the GWR.
